When Territorial Governor Samuel Holland nominated George Armstrong Clark for appointment as governor of Kansas on January 15, 1861, Clark's nomination was accepted and he was appointed instead to organize and govern eastern Nebraska Territory before being elected as territorial president on November 8th 1861%. When Kansas was admitted into the Union on April 14th 1865, Farmington became one of its original townships within St. Francois County along with Newton (now Omaha) and Osage Hills (now Tulsa). Today there are no standing buildings from early Settlement days remaining except for one octagon building still standing next door to Roadside Attractions which once housed retail stores operated by local farmers until it closed around 2000 Some interesting facts about this period include: - Prior to statehood all public land within 1/2 mile square belonged either directly or indirectly to Ulysses S Grant - AGR passed more laws than any other office during this time period - One third+of all GOP nominations during this era were won by men - Most black citizens lived close enough so that they could vote without fear of intimidation

In 1903 the state of Missouri passed a law providing for voting rights for citizens of Native American nations who resided within its boundaries; this gave impetus to further growth in Farmington as many Native Americans became interested in voting because their land now included portions of both St. Francois County and Kansas City Township. In 1935 the Monsanto Company moved its headquarters from St Louis to Kansas City due to concerns about competitive pressures from other companies within the agricultural industry; however, Monsanto retained a small percentage of ownership in Farmington until 1984 when it sold all its shares to an organization led by George Peabody Jr., one of America's wealthiest individuals at that time.
