The first store built in Farmington was a general store operated by Captn Samuel Atkins near present day Union Street and US 62/I-435W . The first home built within present day FarmINGTON borders on present day US 62/I-435W between Elmira Road and Walnut Drive; it stands today as a museum owned by the City ofFarmINGTON Parks Department which offers interpretive programming throughout the year about local history including aspects surrounding land purchases made within its boundaries during that time period that are now considered part of Village Parkland! In 1907, when City Council decided to incorporation as a city instead of remaining separately governed as an agricultural village due to population growth rates exceeding those seen for villages at that time - especially given Wichita’s recent incorporation into Topeka – then- Mayor J B Priest (D) recommended adding Village Parkland adjacent to Town Square (just east of I-435W) extending along Walnut Drive from Elmira Road northeastward towards Union Street & I-435W beyond where currently park boundaries lie; this recommendation resulted ultimately being accepted by Council despite some initial objections raised about potential impacts such as increased traffic congestion around Town Square should village growth continue unabated! This addition greatly enhanced public access & infrastructure opportunities available today within core Village Parkland holdings while also preserved much larger parcels east & west bordering Town Square even though they have not been annexed intoVillage Parkland since 1907 making them subject once again to continued unauthorized development!! Today much larger parcels located east & west bordering bothown Village ParkLAND perimeter remain unincorporated but under authority exercised by elected officials through Recreation Director oversees management activities within CoreVillageParkland areas!!! Allowing future impact mitigation measures TBD but likely significant redesigning or acquisition/control over large tracts locatedeast & west bordering bothown Village PARKLAND perimeter
