In 1845, David Weiser settled in Farmington and opened astore called "The Weiser Store." He also built a small house near present day Main Street and Second Avenue to serve as his home until he died in 1870. In 1861, Wm Halsey organized the First Baptist Church which served as its congregation for over fifty years until it merged with another church in 1985 to form First Presbyterian Church of Farmington Township (now known as Union Chapel). The first post office was established in Farmington on July 15, 1865 by Samuel Atherton with P O Box 514. The town's only grocery store became open on December 12th of that year under the ownership of J F Anderson who operated it for over thirty years before moving it to Deep Ellum where he continued to operate it until his death on January 6th, 1984. On February 9th of that year an act was passed entitled an act providing for organization into townships within St Francois County; and creating six new townships therein; adding Farmington to one thereof; giving all residents within said six new townships freehold titles to their property therein; bearing such cost (including compensation) as aforesaid appertaining thereto: And so much more As follows:Whereas by an Act approved February 2nd1886 (4 Ths.), known generally as the Consolidated Acts of 1886," certain sections or boundaries were added unto said six new Townships viz., Bellefontaine Township including part or all of Old Fort Recovery Indian Reservation lying westward thence including parts or all of Pleasant Hills Township eastward therefrom lying northward Including portions or all of Dickinson Township lying southward thence including parts or all of Jackson Township lying westward thence containing three miles square containing eighteen thousand acres more than two hundred acresagiued hereinbefore mentioned:And whereas by virtue hereof &c.; many citizens within said newly created townships have since obtained title thereto by purchase from others situated outside said township lines having regard only to their residence therein rather than any right they may possess hereafter attaching thereto: Whereas We are desirous that this notice shall be given immediately to such citizens residing within said newly created townships so that they may become owners thereof before long; Now therefore Be It Ordered That a Certificate setting forth this same fact shall be issued unto each citizen aforesaid not later than Monday next following This date.:Be It further Ordered That no taxes be levied upon real estate owned by citizens aforesaid during the term hereinabove set forth without specific written consent from those proprieties.:And finally Be It ordered That this order should take effect immediately.: - On February 9th 1885 local officials met atDeep Ellumto create six new townshipswithinStFrancoescountyandaddFarmingtontoone thereof-givingallresidentswithinsaid6new Townshipsofreeholdtitles tobearwithsuchcost(includingcompensation)asappertainingtherein.;BeItalsoOrderedThatnotaxesbe levieduponrealestateownedbycitizensafreshafteringreadily foregoingThisdate.;And FinallyBeItorderedThatthisordershouldtakeeffectimmediately.:

In 1846, George Aiken laid out a block north of Herringtonville containing his plantation home now known as Aiken Hall; this block formed the nucleus of present-day downtown FarmINGTON In 1847, Territorial Govt Land Commissioner Ebenezer Cady approved plans by local farmers to build a new town on fivesquare miles (12 km²) of central prairie about 30 miles (48 km²) east of Kansas City on I-35W between MO-27 and MO-28 due to its strategic location midway between Lawrencetown proper and Independence Heights with easy access to railroad lines running southwestward through Jefferson County into Texas across the Arkansas River valley narrows just northeast of Farmington center
