Farmington is a small town in the U.S. state of Missouri, located on the east bank of the Osage River. The population was 1,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield-Highland County, Missouri Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to visit what is now Farmington was French trader Pierre Le Moyne in 1683. He named it after his father's home village in France – Agen (Agen). The town took form as a result of an 1836 merger of two settlements, Farmington and Fort Fisher. In 1838, General John Cushing decided that Fort Fisher should be abandoned and its defenders evacuated by water because there was no longer any need for them there. Permanent residents were born during this time: James Haggerty in 1840, Ezra Taft in 1842, Solomon Morse in 1845 and Myron Mclntyre in 1850. In 1861, when Missouri became a U.S. state, Farmington voted to secede from Kansas; however, it rejoined Kansas upon their admission into the Union. By 1870s most of the buildings had been destroyed by fire or otherwise were gone; however some remained until around 1910 when they were torn down again by developers seeking to build apartment blocks on prime agricultural land along the riverfront Stripes development project which spanned across much of downtown St Louis County including parts of nearby Ferguson and Belleville In 1912 Farmington organized its own school board which made it one of only five towns within St Louis County with such autonomy; other examples include Columbia Heights (1910), Florissant Heights (1920), Ballwin (1925) and Charleston Heights (1930). From 1923 through 1961 School District No 10 served all students within Farmington Township including students from neighboring communities Springdale and Parkersburg who attended schools operated by other districts within St Louis County such as Columbiana Heights Public Schools District 11 or Ferguson-St Peters Public Schools District 12 respectively On July 1st 1957 Anthony J Brown became elected as Mayor pro tempore succeeding incumbent A C Bourgeois who had held office since 1943 When Bourgeois left office he was succeeded by his son-in-law George Pugh who served until 1969 when he too resigned due to term limits set forth by then Governor Leonard Wood Asoka Elementary School closed effective September 30th 2013 due to lack of enrollment Growth has occurred adjacent to campus making necessary redevelopmentNow open under new name "Annie E Smith Elementary"

Farmington, Missouri is a small town in central Missouri, United States. The population was 2,624 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first white settlers arrived in Farmington in 1839. The current town was founded in 1851 and named for General James K. Polk, who won the US presidential election of that year. In 1860, during the American Civil War, Union forces burned down the courthouse and most of the town center while trying to capture Confederate General Robert E. Lee. In 1865, when Missouri became a state following the American Civil War, Farmington became one of its original towns. It remained an agricultural community until it developed into a commercial center during the late 20th century with heavy industry including two large aluminum smelters and many smaller businesses. In recent decades, however, Farmington has seen declines in its manufacturing base as well as its overall economic vitality; nonetheless, it remains a popular tourist destination due to its unique history and attractions.
Farmington is located in southern Illinois. In 1817, the first white person to live in Farmington was James Proctor. The town was platted on December 11, 1817 by Major General Daniel Boone and his group of soldiers from Kentucky. The first buildings were a log cabin and a few sod houses. A post office was established in 1819, and the community started to grow. By 1830, there were about 30 people living in Farmington. The town grew rapidly because of its natural resources such as timber and coal. The growth of Farmington led to increased competition for jobs and housing. In 1831, the state legislature passed a bill that allowed for township organization within a county. This meant that Farmington became part of Dixon County instead of remaining within Cook County which had been its original location. In 1834, the population of Farmington reached 350 people. However, it decreased over the next decade due to new arrivals and economic hardships caused by the Panic of 1837. By 1840, only seventy-six residents remained in FarmINGTON while Dixon County had 871 residents total. In 1865, when Missouri became a Confederate state following the American Civil War, much of central Illinois fell under Union control including parts of Dixon County including Farmington proper. As a result, Farmington lost most if not all its development during this time period as well as manyof its residents who left for other parts of Missouri or Central Illinois during the war years (1865-1868).
