Excelsior Springs, Missouri is home to one of the most accomplished and popular shooters in the United States. The city has a rich history of shooters that have contributed to the sport through their participation and observation. One of the first shooters in Excelsior Springs was Samuel Wesley Fenton. He was a blacksmith who started shooting target practice at his home in 1858. In 1865, he founded The Excelsior Rifle Club, which still meets annually today. The Second American Civil War saw an increase inshooters in Excelsior Springs. Many men from here served in battle or fought on either side during this time period. One notable shooter was Ira Wickersham, who served as captain of Company G, 20th Illinois Infantry Regiment (now part of the Illinois National Guard). Wickersham killed 11 Confederate soldiers with his rifle before being captured and released by Union forces. After the war, many new shooters came to town and started using Excelsior Springs as their training ground for new firearms skills. These days, there are several different shooting ranges within walking distance of each other that accommodate any skill level or interest level! rifle range #1 is open Tuesdays- Sundays 9 am-5 pm while handgun range #2 is open Mondays 10 am-3 pm only! Both ranges offer assistant referees for those who desire it while still providing plenty of opportunity for both novice and experienced shooters to operate safely! There is also an indoor trap range that makes use of all types of traps including dog sledding ramps! This experience led directly to development of today's typical hunting rifle which uses high-velocity rounds capable of causing serious injury or even death if they are shot into the brain or other vital organs without fail

Excelsior Springs is a town in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,823 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. Excelsior Springs was organized as a town on December 8, 1871, and became a city on May 6, 1907. On February 11, 1912, Excelsior Springs annexed the neighboring town of Harper Woods. The first settlers to Excelsior Springs were Enos Slaughter and his family from Illinois who arrived in 1868. They ranched land for three years before buying some land east of the village center which they named Slaughter's Prairie after themselves and their son-in-law John Slaughter (1827-1911). In 1870 Isaac Neely bought land northwest of the village center from John Slaughter and built him a log cabin called "Neely's Cabin". He also erected an adobe house near today's intersection of Main Street and Elm Street. The first post office was established in this location on January 20, 1871 by Wm Hittner with P G Hill as clerk. A new courthouse was built in 1872 by J F Huston and it remains standing today across Main Street from Neely's Cabin. In 1875 James Earle moved to Excelsior Springs from rural Phelps County with his family to engage in agriculture because he could not find work elsewhere in the area due to bad weather conditions during winter months when crops were grown wild or too cold for harvesting alive. James Earle started what would eventually become known as "The Earles grocery store" on North Market Street just south of Elm Street which still stands today serving customers today since 1956! The Earles also erected a home north of Market street where they lived until their death in 1978 when their daughter Jane took over management of their grocery store and restaurant operation that still operates under her name today! Another early settler was D B Cummings who came about year 1850 from Kentucky via wagon train with his oxen! One reason why this place got its name "Excelsior" may be because it resembled very much Plains Farms located about twenty miles away along present day Route 66! In later years some residents began using the term " SPRINGS ", even though no springs existed there at that time (the name probably originated with General James Eads' suggestion while surveying local waters for possible settlements). Another early resident who made an impact on Excelsior Springs was Fenton Fowler who purchased 81 acres adjoining present day Maple Grove Avenue near where he ran into difficulty finding suitable ground to cultivate corn so decided to build himself a farmstead instead!! This venture would lead him to found another prominent business enterprise soon thereafter - The Fowler Brothers Grain Mill which continued operating until 1958 when it went out of business due primarily to competition brought about by highways being constructed adjacent thereto! Some other early businesses include: S R French & Sons lumberyard on West Elm Street; Mrs V Wade's Bakery which operated until 1922; Harry Blacksmith Shop which operated until 1951; etc... Today many more legacy businesses still operate within the confines of our vibrant downtown core - including several restaurants/bars/cafeterias/, banks/credit unions/hospitals/clothing stores etc... All these businesses continue providing quality employment within our close-knit community - contributing importantly to support our economy both locally AND nationally! Although growth had been sporadic due largely to lack thereof natural resources such as water or grazingland available nearby for settlement development - progress did finally begin earnestly through railroad construction that paralleled farming activity expanding agricultural production somewhat easier southwestward limits then becoming increasingly difficult eastward towards Springfield resulting ultimately in Lexington County becoming isolated thereby thwarting any real potential economic development should such have followed!!! With Interstate 70 now forming one continuous corridor linking all portions Of Missouri making travel between cities much easier than ever before thruout most counties thereby increasing job opportunities for those seeking them outside traditional areas) - having achieved this major milestone relatively recently has allowed us locals once again emerging from relative obscurity (albeit temporarily) back onto THE map!!! whiskers up folks!!!!!
Excelsior Springs was a small community in central Missouri, United States. It was founded in 1836 and named for General James K. Polk, the 33rd president of the United States. The community had a post office from 1837 to 1896. It was located on the east bank of the River Osage near present-day Springfield.
