The first case occurred in 1884 when a man named John Dickey was shot and killed by two men who were looking for his horse. After the shooting, the city passed an ordinance making it a felony to possess a handgun without a license. This ordinance remained in effect until 1938. Another interesting case happened in 1952 when James Worthy was shot and killed by another man while he was getting ready to shoot at a dog that had attacked his wife. After the shooting, Worthy's family moved to Creve Coeur so they could pursue damages against the assailant. However, this effort failed because the assailant never turned himself over to authorities. In 1973, two men were convicted of killing four people with handguns in Creve Coeur. These shootings came about after two friends got into an argument over who owned which handgun and eventually decided toshoot each other with their respective firearms. Although both men were sentenced to life in prison, one man recently served time for having registration on his pistol from 1984-1989!

By 1870, most of Creve Coeur had been developed as an agricultural center with many large homes having been built around Kossuth Road and Main Street. The population peaked at 2,500 in 1907 but decreased over the next few decades due to several factors including World War I and the Dust Bowl which caused crop failures throughout much of Missouri. However, by 1970 there still remained about 1,000 residents in CreveCoeur while most of its buildings had long since been replaced or demolished. In 1978-79CreveCoeur voters passed a proposition calling for creole language instruction in public schools through private institutions; this proposal failed howevercreole culture continued to slowly grow despite this failure over time with various small initiatives such as started by local artist Darnell Earle III in 2003 known as "Oplease" which aimed to promote African American cultural heritage within CreVeCoeur through performance art exhibitions and educational events primarily targeting middle/high school students along with occasional exhibits specifically targeting older generations Memphis-style). As recently as 2006-2007theActiveClassrooms program offered afterschool tutoring courses specifically designed for gifted high school students interested in learning more about science fiction writing and technology topics) have attracted some attention from parents looking for ways their children can engage with creative outlets beyond TV shows like House Moms etc.). Creve Coeur is a small town inJefferson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 965 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City Metropolitan Statistical Area. Creve Coeur was laid out in 1858 by Daniel Webster and named for French explorer Pierre-Charles de la Salle. The first white settler in the area was James Hutton, who arrived in 1859. He built a log cabin on the east side of the creek near present day CreveCoeur Elementary School. A post office called Huttonville was established in 1862, but it never served as a community center because it was too far from any other settlements and because transportation options were not good then. In 1865, John Morse moved to Creve Coeur from Independence and started a mercantile business with his brother Amos Morse. The mule trains running between Independence and Shawnee were so important to commerce that they are known locally as "the mules of CreveCoeur." In 1881, George Fenton purchased land northeast of Creve Coeur from Nicholas Proctor for $135 ($ today). Fenton developed what is now downtown Creve Coeur into a dry goods store, hotel, and post office complex which he named after his two brothers: George Fenton & Sons Store & Hotel (now First National Bank), Proctor House (now used as an apartment building), and Main Street (now US-Route 66) also known as "The Avenue". In 1911, General Electric bought most of what is now First National Bank for $1 million dollars which made it one of the largest commercial properties in Missouri at that time. When GE left Missouri to become NBCUniversal later that decade, much of their old property ended up being Developed into One Mile North Parkland Shopping Center which opened in 1997 adjacent to Interstate 40 just south of I-40 exit 148A/MCDougal Road/Old Route 66entrance). In 1972 when Jefferson County formed its new government under statehood status due to population growth within Jeffco limits since 1959 (!),CreveCoeur became part of newly formed Jefferson County while still retaining its own governing board and mayoralty until 1980 when seat went to KCMO through mergers with several other towns withinJeffco boundaries including those located just north including Overland Park across I-435 highway entering KS city limits !!
Clarence Darrow, the brother of future U.S. Supreme Court Justice Robert H. Darrow, was born in Creve Coeur, Missouri on October 4, 1892. He attended local public schools and then studied law at the University of Missouri before being admitted to the bar in 1915. In 1916 he married Alice Estelle Phelps and soon after began practicing law in Creve Coeur with his sister-in-law Eleanor Roosevelt. Darrow represented Greendale Township (later known as Ferguson) in a case that helped create federal antitrust laws and made him one of the most influential attorneys in America during the 1920s and 1930s. He also served as an advisor to President Franklin D. Roosevelt on various issues during his time in office, including labor relations and Social Security reform. In 1939 he became one of the first attorneys ever to be elected to statewide office when he was elected Attorney General of Missouri for the first time. He held this position until 1960 when he resigned due to ailments caused by cancerous tumors located near his brain stem
