In 1836, David Ralston donated land to create what would become downtown St. Louis after purchasing a tract from Captain John Smith at the mouth of River Des Peres near present day Washington Park in downtown St.Louis. The first settlers were men led by Hiram Biddle: Daniel Baldwin (1801-1868), Isaac Bates (1802-1872), George Hebert (1806-1869), Ebenezer Higgins (baptized December 15, 1807 – died January 1, 1865), Josias Beall (baptized October 3, 1787 – died March 11, 1865), Solomon Hamlin (1789-1861) and Paul Revere(1795–71). Biddle's Landing became an important early commercial center because it served as both a landing for shipping goods brought downriver by barge and also as an anchorage for steamboats that transported goods upriver to larger ports on the Illinois River or downstream to points east such as Louisville or Cincinnati. The original wharf structures still remain within walking distance of each other across Banks Street today: Biddle's Wharf Apprentice Wharf #1 now known as Howard Johnson's Restaurant while #2 remains vacant currently used as storage space for city services garage; Samuel Loomis Wharf now known as Old Chinese Pawnbroker Shop & Tea Room; and David Ralston Pier which diverged into two branches - Lower & Upper Ralston - becoming Main Street later Stillwell Avenue when Creve Coeur became part of Saint Louis City limits in 1904 The arrival of railroads changed everything beginning with CreveCoeur Depot on November 10th 1870 when Union Pacific Railroad completed its line linking Chicago with Saint Louis via Blanchardstown Junction just east of town CreveCoeur had already been connected to nearby Jennings through Rock Road but this new line made things much easier for travelers arriving by train from all directions including those coming downriver from Hannibal or Springfield Saint Charles Parish began annexing portions of neighboring townships increasing competition for farmland between these municipalities until finally Saint Charles won approval to merge with Saint Louis County on February 14th 1850 forming what is today called Missouri’s 3rd District . This increased competition led to job creation along newly connecting roads not only providing transportation links between cities but also creating new opportunities for entrepreneurs looking to start their own businesses . One such entrepreneur was John Beckwith who opened Beckwith’s grocery store on May 15th 1851 following his purchase of four acres adjacent to what is now Midtown Boulevard Stephen Auld founded Auld & Haggerty dry goods store located on current day South Market Street east side opposite old Comer Hospital building across southbound I-435 lanes

This increased trade which led to more people moving to Creve Coeur and helped make it one of the most prosperous communities in southern Missouri during this time period.
