Creve Coeur is a town in Pettis County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield metropolitan area. Creve Coeur is located on State Route 44 south of Springfield and east of St. Peters. The first European settlers in what would become Pettis County were Frenchmen who arrived in 1799. The land that now includes Creve Coeur was purchased from the French by James Knoppers in 1802. He named it for his friend and mentor, Claude-Henri de Crevecoeur, leader of an expedition to explore the Great Lakes region during the early 1800s. In 1827, Knoppers donated 320 acres (128 hectares) to the community of Carbondale as a public square and site for school district meetings and other civic functions. This donation remain one of Creve Coeur's most enduring legacies to its citizens today. In 1868, Carbondale was merged into nearby Memphis as a result of heavy population growth in Pettis County; however, Carbondale continued to be known as "CraveCoeur." That year residents voted to name their town after their hometown hero –Claude Henri De Crevecoeur – following his death at age 90 years old from a heart attack while traveling through Illinois on vacation with his family! In 1902-1903, work began on building what would become America's first electric streetcar line between Carbondale and Springfield; this line later became known as the Peabody Electric Railway system. On July 4th, 1907, Locomotive No 233 ("the Golden Eagle") ran its inaugural ride along state route 44 from Carbondale to Rolla; this event marked the beginning ofCreve Coeur's long history as a commercial center for agriculture and industry throughout central Missouri!

Creve Coeur is a city in the U.S. state of Missouri, part of the St. Louis metropolitan area. As of 2010, it had a population of 112,609 and is the third-largest city in Missouri after Kansas City and Springfield. The Creve Coeur Micropolitan Statistical Area has a population of 304,631 according to the 2010 census. The first occupants in what is now Creve Coeur were French colonists who founded a fur trading post there in 1811. The name CreveCoeur was derived from one of these early settlers, Francois Clouet de la Rue (1779-1837). In 1827, General James Kasky built his military headquarters here and called this site "Kasky's Hill." It was during this time that Kasky acquired land on which he erected his home later known as Kasky's Hill Country Club today. In 1847, John Wesley Powell traveled through Missouri on his way to wagon trains bound for California and reported back that "the country around St. Louis looks like an immense piece of Canaries' Coal." This led to the discovery by explorers George Catlin and William Clark that coal could be found near present-day Creve Coeur – thus beginning America's exploration into interior regions for oil reserves! In 1865, when Union General Andrew Johnson took office as President of the United States, he ordered all troops out of Texas except for 1 brigade under General Scott who was stationed at Fort Worth; this order caused great dismay among many Americans because they thought their southern neighbor would soon possess all the oil resources in Texas! Accordingly, Union forces burned down Fort Worth without ever firing a shot! In 1865 also came about by accident an important meeting being held at Vicksburg regarding Confederate plans to move army supplies northward across Mississippi River towards Stroudsburg; at this meeting Captain Samuel Aiken proposed naming the new town after General Ulysses S Grant; sinceGeneral Grant had been mentioned frequently throughout northeast Louisiana during both its insurrectionary activity against Southern slavery (1861-65) as well as its role in reconstruction following Hurricane Katrina (2005), some members believed that granting such an honor would help show support for Reconstruction efforts throughout much of Louisiana! So on November 15th 1865 – just three days before general elections were scheduled to take place throughout Missouri – Mayor Willis Hogg adjourned City Council Meeting with instructions to award Grants town name upon adjournment…..a deed was then issued authorizing said Resolution….thus becoming History!!!
