Crestwood is a town in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 2,788 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City Metropolitan Area. The first settler in Crestwood was James Crouch who arrived in 1827. Crestwood was platted in 1839 by John Davenport and named for his home state of Kentucky, which he had visited as a young man. Davenport ran a gristmill and post office here until 1850 when he moored his ship "Norman" on the river to make flour from the corn that grew along the creek nearby. He also built a large log cabin here which still stands today as a museum piece. He died in this cabin on July 8, 1850 and is buried there with his wife Anna and their two children: James Jr., age 5, and Nancy A., age 3 years old (the only child of both parents). In 1861 when Union forces fought Confederate troops during the American Civil War, most all of Crestwood sided with the Union side; however some residents chose to stay with Confederate General Robert ELLIOTT while others Joined General Ulysses S Grant's army at Vicksburg mansion where they surrendered on June 11th 1865. Aftermath: Many people were taken into slavery after the war including many citizens of Crestwood who were caught up in what became known as “The Great Migration” from Illinois to Arkansas and other states during Reconstruction era

Crestwood became a community because of its excellent location near two major roads: Route 66 (now US Highway 45) to the east and Route 506 (now I-70) to the west. The great depression caused many farms to go bankrupt and many people left Crestwood during that time frame. However, businesses like Woolworth's store continued to thrive throughout the Depression years due to their customer base being made up of hard-working farmers and their children who helped out with farm work or bought items from local stores. In 1939, when Interstate 70 was constructed, Crestwoods business flourished as it became one of few communities within miles of both exits that could easily access commerce without having to leave their homes
Crestwood was founded in 1847 by John and Sarah Lyon. The town was named after a small hill located in the center of the town. Crestwood grew rapidly during the 1800s, becoming a major fur-trading and agricultural center. In 1907, Crestwood became an incorporated city.
