Crestwood, Missouri is a small town in Phelps County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2000 census. It is part of the St. Louis metropolitan area. Crestwood is located on the border of Phelps and Clayton counties. The first settlers in Crestwood were Drury and his family who came from Kentucky in 1814. They built a log cabin on the east side of the creek that flows through Crestwood today. The first store opened in 1835 and was called "The Store". In 1851, John Denton founded another store which he called "The Depot". By 1870, there were six stores operating in Crestwood with a population of 2,500 people. In 1902-1903, A.J. Mims developed land southeast of Crestwood and began to build what would become Mims Park which included tennis courts, a football field, two swimming pools (one for boys and one for girls), boat ramps and other features now enjoyed by residents and visitors alike. In 1926–27 Fenton Brothers constructed three churches - First Methodist Church (1899), Second Methodist Church (1922) and Third Presbyterian Church (1963). These Churches are still standing today thanks to their generous donors! In 1951 local entrepreneur Don Dooley purchased 681 acres northeast of Crestwood along US Route 362 for $2 million dollars making him one of the early developers in this area known as "Dooleytown." Dooleytown became an anchorpoint for development around here with new subdivisions being built throughout its history culminating in its current form as parts of Stroudsburg Township today! Since then many families have brought their lives to this community - some 46 years later - contributing greatly to both education and economic stability here!
