A few years later, Isaac Sibley moved to Crestwood from Illinois and opened a general store which would remain a commercial center until it burned down in 1855. In 1865, General Winfield Scott Taylor came to Missouri and founded the village of Columbia which became the county seat of St Francois County. On December 15, 1865, he ordered all public buildings be razed to make way for his new courthouse which would become known as "Taylor’s Castle". In 1902, when Columbia became an incorporated city under state law, Taylor's Castle was designated as its Municipal Building where municipal meetings were held until recently (and still take place there). Crestwood experienced some growth during World War II with many local businesses contributing to war effort production such as munitions plants or tool factories; however these facilities closed after the war ended without any appreciable impact on the local economy other than nostalgia among some residents for what they once had gone through during wartime production activities In recent decades much research has been conducted on aging populations within towns like Crestwood; however little progress has been made towards developing any initiatives or plans specific to this issue given that current funding levels are too low given both real estate values statewide as well as current economic conditions throughout much of America . Although annexation by Columbia City in 2020 may provide impetus for more aggressive development plans specifically pertaining to aging demographics within particular boundaries within CrestWOOD itself it remains unclear if anything will actually happen beyond 2020 given that official annexation paperwork still needs to be processed

In 1865, the company merged with one of Missouri's largest cotton plantations, Caulfield & Co., to form the Caulfield Cotton Company. In 1872, two years after merging with another plantation-company, the Caulfield Cotton Company became a subsidiary of the newly formed United States Steel Corporation. From 1886 until his death in 1922, James Matson served as president and CEO of United States Steel Corporation. In 1932, United States Steel Corporation merged into Bethlehem Steel Corp., which later merged into ArcelorMittal AG. As part of this merger, Crestwood lost its status as a separate municipality and became part of Bethlehem Township.
