Crestwood, Missouri is a small town in Boone County, Missouri. It was founded in 1836 by Col. John Silliman and his family. The community grew quickly due to its location at the crossroads of several routes and its close proximity to the Illinois River. By 1854, Crestwood had a population of around 100 people. In 1865, Crestwood became an official town within the United States when it was included in the Kansas Territory. The area that now includes Crestwood was first populated by Native Americans who hunted deer and other game near present-day Prestonshire Lake. They built lodges on high ground overlooking the lake for months at a time during the summer months so they could watch the birds and fish migrating past. After white settlers began moving into this region in large numbers, hunting and fishing became less common because there were no available resources nearby to support them. In 1836, Col. John Silliman came across land west ofpresent-day Crestwood on which he founded what would become Crestwood Manor. He named his new settlement after himself (Crestwood) and his home state (Missouri). The manor house remains standing today as part of Crestwood's historical district. In 1850, crestwodspopulated with 115 people; however by 1860 it had shrunk to only ten residents due to increasing travel times between Crestwodgand Kansas City . In 1865, when Kansas Territory was organized into states, CrestWOOD became an official town within US territory as well as one of two towns located in Boone County (the other being Independence). At this time businesses were limited to groceries and merchandise stores; dentists were not yet established in this area so teeth were not commonly used as currency or items for sale from store windows until later years when that industry developed significantly more prominently hereabouts! On January 1st 1907 - just four short years after becoming anofficial US Town -Families of local farmers started raising chickens coup living out their days among their recently acquired new home soil! In 1872, William Daly purchased 640 acres (250 ha) of land north of town from James Hunt for $8500 dollars cash on creditlarly payable within 10 years with an annual interest payment of $2000 dollars annually dating back to that date! This purchase represented one of the earliest large tracts of agricultural land in Kansas County and gave rise to many local farmers and ranchers who continue to live here today including Crawford & Company Paper Mill (now known as US Steel), ActionRanching Solutions (a full service beef slaughter business), Dollinger Farms pet food company, Bateman Ford dealership/repair shop/parts store/gas station/, Pritchard Auto Parts (now Jiffy Lube), Gorman's grocery store/pizza place/, Daily News printing plant/, Kelly Bros., Inc., general contracting firm., Rehder Engineering Co., Inc./Rehder Trucking Co.). The businesses listed above are all still operating today; however some have changed hands over time or moved away from Crestwood altogether! The mill has been closed down multiple times but has been repurposed several times including once as an event center featuring various performances by local bands and artists over recent years!. By the late 21st century, however, Crestwood had lost much of its significance as a manufacturing center due to competition from larger metropolitan areas in Illinois and Missouri. However, it remains an important community with strong cultural ties to its predecessor towns.
