Crestwood is a town in Jackson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield–Branson Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Crestwood was John Hocking in 1827. At the time of his settlement, Crestwood was located on the east bank of the Missouri River about north of present-day Springfield. Hocking named his land for Sir Charles Beresford, 2nd Baronet (1792-1858), an English statesman and member of Parliament who had been ambassador to Russia and then to France before becoming a Conservative MP in 1828. In 1830, Crestwood also became home to one of the earliest schools in Jackson County when Dr. James Rivers opened a schoolhouse on what is now Main Street. In 1834, the village replaced its original log schoolhouse with a frame structure that still stands today. The first post office in Crestwood was established in 1838; it was moved from Hastingsville to Crestwood two years later because that location offered more advantages for shipping goods than did Hastingsville – including an outlet into riverboats on both sides of the river. A millrace forms much of what is now Main Street; it served as an important waterway for early settlers and later served as a transportation artery for goods coming downriver from Illinois and Missouri settlements along the rivers near present day Hannibal and Independence Heights. In 1840, John Dutton started manufacturing hatboxes out of earthenware at his mill on what is now South Avenue; this industry continued until around 1870 when aluminum hats began becoming popular due to their light weight and ability to be stored away without spoilage caused by leather bindings breaking down over time. The first store built in Crestwood was brick built by Isaak Herschel between 1840 and 1843 at what is now Fourth Street and Commercial Drive; this store soon followed suit with another brick store built by Isaac Chamberlain between 1850 and1854 at Second Street south of Main Street – both stores were eventually destroyed by fire during heavy rains which destroyed most buildings during that period across Jackson County). A post office called Clinton operated briefly from 1861 until 1865 due to President Abraham Lincoln's orders requiring all Ulysses S Grant's correspondence being sent via mail rather than being delivered personally to each individual's house like previous presidents had done.; however no postal service actually operated within or outside Crestwood while Clinton functioned as a mail stop only providing mail delivery services inside town limits instead which made it difficult if not impossible for anyone other than local residents or their families to receive any letters or packages arriving within their town limits even though they may have resided there all their life! Crestwood is a small town located in north-central Missouri. The population was 2,752 at the 2010 census. It is included in the St. Louis metropolitan area. Crestwood was founded by farmers in 1839 and its first store opened in 1840. In 1857, the first post office was established here and the town became a city in 1907. The original crestwood land grant, given to John Crouch of Bellefontaine County, Kentucky, by President James K. Polk on July 4, 1830, provided for the creation of what is now Crestwood Township and part of Bellefontaine County. This grant was augmented by other grants from Polk to various settlers in 1834-35; these tracts were collectively known as "the Prairie Road Grant." In 1839, George Washington Carver arrived in Illinois with his family and began farming near present day Springfield. He advertised his new land grantsaver near Crestwood for sale to eligible citizens who would purchase one acre or more for $1 per year from date of issue (March 1st through December 31st). The Carvers extended this offer to anyone who could afford it—a policy that continues to this day. The first store opened in 1840 at what is now US 61 and Williams Avenue; it served as both a gristmill and post office until 1855 when the latter moved to an new location across US 71 from where it still operates today. A fire destroyed most of the village on October 15th, 1880; however, due to quick response by residents several stores reopened within days after being rebuilt with local materials and labor! "When I came here," wrote one resident years later "I found only two houses left standing...150 people had been living there before me." In 1907 Crestwood became a city under Mayor Harry Swayne's leadership after three decades of service as mayor of neighboring Bellefontaine City (now St Charles). At that time Crestwood had a population estimated at 2,000 but grew rapidly due principally to workers migrating into nearby cities during World War I & II seeking employment opportunities which increased municipal funding available for civic projects such as paved streets & libraries etcetera.. When World War II ended many people returned home including many veteran soldiers who erected Victory Arch Monument here shortly thereafter
