Today, Crestwood is a small town with a proud history that celebrates its many achievements including being home to the world's second largest cross country track (9 miles long) and having been named "Best Place to Live in Missouri" by both magazine publications Reader's Digest and Travel & Leisure.

In 1839, the Crestwoods donated land to make a town, which they named after themselves. The town grew rapidly and soon had a population of 100 people. By 1850, the town had grown to 300 people and it became a city in 1870. The city was renamed St. Louis in 1898 after General James K. Polk's visit to Missouri that year.
