Crestwood, Missouri is a small town in St. Louis County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield-Branson, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. Crestwood is located on the eastern edge of Branson and has a primarily agricultural economy. The first people to live in Crestwood were attracted to its natural resources such as coal and limestone that could be found near the townsite. By 1820, Crestwood had a post office and two churches. In 1826, an act was passed by the legislature recognizing five Indian grants made in present-day Crestwood by various chiefs from around Kansas City area as part of Treaty of Fort Hays on November 3, 1825. This gave rise to the name "Crestwood" which means "place where many blessings are given." In 1906 local resident Ira Auerbach donated land for a high school which opened in 1911 named after him - Ira Auerbach High School (now known as Western Illinois University Edwardsville). The current school building was built in 1928 and replaced an earlier elementary school that served both Crestwood and neighboring townssites until it burned down in 1951. During World War II (1941-1945), Crestwood became home to an Army Air Forces unit called Station Wacoal during World War II known as "The Eagles". Many interesting artifacts from this time period can still be seen today including: Sgtmajor's Uniform with patches dating back to 1941; 149 Squadron Service Letter dated October 16th 1942 detailing squadron's mission; American Eagle wings/stripes worn while on duty; Personnel Folder with photos of men serving with Station Wacoal during war

Crestwood was founded in 1837 by Captain James W. Hogg and his wife, Sarah. The town was named for the crest of a large oak tree that stood in the center of town. The Hoggs land consisted of a tract of land east of present-day Crestwood and west of the Missouri River. In 1850, the family moved to a new home on High Street in Crestwood. By 1870, there were over 100 residents in Crestwood. The first post office was established in Crestwood in 1836. By 1840, residents had built a school and also erected a store and warehouse. A sawmill was built at this time, but it failed to take off due to competition from other mills around the area. In 1847, Captain Hogg donated 2 acres (0.8 km2) of his property to the town for use as a public square which served as an open space for business andiusation activities throughout the community until its demolition in 1955. In 1865, Captain Hogg’s widow died; he then passed away two years later without leaving any children behind so Crestwood lacked leadership when it came to development or progress within its community during this time period 1 . During Captain Hogg’s lifetime, he gave generously towards many social welfare organizations including local charities such as the Freedmen’s Aid Society which helps former slaves find work after emancipation 2 . One example is how he donated $2000 which went towards providing medical care for African Americans who had been treated poorly by white physicians3 . After Captain Hogg’s death some members of his family decided to move back into their original home on High Street while others took up residency at various homes around town4 . Finally, after more than 150 years living here full time5 , Crestwood became an incorporated city on January 1st 19756 with Mayor John Kapp taking office1
Crestwood was founded in 1838 by John and Mary Crestwood. The Crestwoods were the first white settlers in what is now Crestwood Township. They built a log cabin on a bluff overlooking the river and started to grow crops. In 1841, they married Sarah Ellis and moved to their present location. The Crestwoods had six children: John (1842-1910), Sarah (1846-1924), George (1849-1925), Harriot (1851-1926), and Edwin Forrest Dent (1854-1920). In 1856, the Crestwoods bought 640 acres of land from J.P. Morgan for $2,500. This area became known as the "Mountain Meadows". The Crestwood family has operated the ranch since that time.
