Crestwood, Missouri is home to one of the largest and most significant collections of binoculars in the world. The town was founded in 1881 by two brothers, Amos and Edward Crestwood. At that time, Crestwood was a small farming community located on the western edge of St. Louis County. The Crestwoods were one of the first farmers to develop an interest in optics and began purchasing lenses from German manufacturers in the early 1800s. They also developed their own manufacturing process for making binoculars which allowed them to produce high quality products at a lower cost than other companies. In 1907, Amos Crestwood died suddenly after leaving his estate to his son Edward Jr.. AfterEdward's death, his widow continued production of binoculars under her own name until she sold it to Montgomery County Secondary School District in 1959 for $10,000. This donation helped preserve and share withsecondary school students the oldest continuously operating optical store in America. Today, there are over 2,500 pairs of binoculars stored at Montgomery County Secondary School District which includes over 100 vintage models dating back to 1881! These binoculars are used by secondary school students across Missouri as well as many other states throughout North America. Wells developed a design for a water-resistant and sturdybinoculars that could be used in hunting and fishing expeditions. The first production binoculars were made by these two men in Crestwood.
Crestwood is a town in and the county seat of Boone County, Missouri, United States. The population was 7,481 at the 2000 census. The name "Crestwood" is a corruption of "Creekwood", which was the original name for the area. Crestwood has been settled by European Americans since 1820. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Crestwood were French and Indian traders from Quebec. They named their new settlement after a tree that grew near them on the edge of a swamp: Crescendaire (meaning 'tremblingoak'). In 1821, General Jesse James discovered what would become Crestwood while exploring the Arkansas River region fordering tribute from Native American nations east of Memphis, Tennessee. He renamed this place James City County in honor of his hero and mentor, General James K. Polk. In 1835, Daniel Boone founded Fort Boonesborough on land Acquired by Kansas Territory during its creation in 1836 as part ofnering to Missouri Territory granted to Kansas via the Compromise of 1850 between Ulysses S. Grant and John A. Logan; both men had served as territorial governors prior to their appointment as president-elect Ulysses S. Grant's secretary of war under Abraham Lincoln; following Lincoln's inauguration on April 12th 1865 he moved into office with instructions from President Andrew Johnson to dissolve all Union territories except Oregon where there existed much political unrest due largely to pro-slavery sentiment within those territories; Accordingly on March 21st 1865 Fort Boonesborough reverted back to Missouri Territory form under proclamation issued by George Hennepin which read: 'WHEREAS On said day four thousand nine hundred fifty one (4 January 1865) an act was passed by Congress entitled An Act providing for organizing Kansas Territory...AND WHEREAS It appeared from various sources that not only were citizens in such places as Lawrence, Topeka and Wichita unauthorized visitors but also surveys had not been made or plans executed respecting proper boundaries between said territory so designated and Douglas County'; therefore it was ordered that all surveys done hitherto within said boundaries be re-done immediately when practicable according to law...' Accordingly upon receipt of this proclamation most residents vacated their homes before too long leaving behind trees planted without permission or compensation by government officials who claimed they needed these limbs for firewood purposes only; many residents never received reimbursement for goods purchased even though items such as dishes, china and silverware still remain extant examples from pioneer days when prices were high because goods brought over Great Lakes ferries weren't taxed at twice the rate then common here in America thanks specifically to our Founding Fathers who realized that trade opened up opportunities for us unlike Britains who allowed tea & coffee trading regulations which closed off vast areas we've today including parts Michigan & Illinois etc.; much like how we allow cars running on gasoline whereas Britains used horses drawn carts until well into this century when their finally Switched To Electric Cars etc.' Today almost every family has some connection with agriculture either through owning land or working within local nurseries carrying crops year-round orchard fruits trees vegetables flowers apples cider grapes wildflowers honey etc., making Crestwood one stop shop when looking for fresh produce year-round whether it be local produce grown seasonally or something more exotic like dragon fruit

Crestwood is a small town in northeastern Missouri, United States. The population was 1,427 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous city in Greene County. Crestwood is located on the banks of the Missouri River. The first permanent settler in Crestwood was John Cline, who arrived in 1798 and platted what would become Crestwood Township. He named it after his home county of Cumberland, Kentucky. Other early settlers were Andrew McNeely and Nicholas Hickey. In 1839, Isaac Newton bought land around present-day Crestwood from Daniel Boone for $2,000 (). Newton established a plantation known as "Newton's Corner". In 1840, he sold part of this property to James Aiken for $4,500 (). In 1847–48, Wm Henson built a log cabin on his farmstead near today's intersection of US Highway 36 and MO Route 240 (now US Highway 640). This structure became known as "Henson's Cabin". The first post office at Crestwood was established in 1852 with David Rankin as its first conductor. Because there were no railroads then available to service small towns within Greene County, mail became an important function of local governments; accordingly,Rankin continue delivering mail until about 1870 when stagecoach transportation became available throughout much of America. In 1865–66 Gustave Flaubert lodged with his family at Aiken's farmstead while he wrote novels including Pickwick Papers and Madame Bovary; later that year he published his travelogue Journal du voyage en Angleterre et dans les pays de l'Europe centrale (1867). Many people who had read Flaubert's book before embarking on their own travels took advantage of this opportunity to see him up close while staying with friends or relatives during these years prior to publication.. Later that same year residents erected a large stone cross which still stands atop one side of Center Street in honor of Mr./Mrs./Gustave Flaubert who donated the land for its erection.. Custer Battlefield State Park was opened to the public by Governor Joplin on October 24th 1905 commemorating Union General George Armstrong Custer’s death at Battle Creek five weeks earlier on July 14th that year during the Mexican-American War.. On November 12th 1908 an adjacent cemetery was dedicated in memory of all those killed or buried near Custer Battlefield due mostly to weather related accidents and floods over that winter season including Mrs.( Evalyn) Ewing’s tragic loss having been swept away by heavy rains while caring for her elderly mother under feet – killing both woman instantly – operations being successfully completed only hours before her funeral took place despite objections raised by some citizens claiming “a decent Christian burial could have been made arrangements for them” notwithstanding Mrs.( Evalyn)Ewing’s body being interred without headstones or coffin following military protocols which required such decorum ..... On February 5th 1922 local residents celebrated their centennial with a picnic dinner/festivities attended by dignitaries from Springfield also attending what would be their last meeting together as a community organization rather than continuing along separate paths thereafter... The first school building constructed here - called Taylor School - burned down December 15th 1922 due largely to faulty wiring inside but fortunately not before all children were able to attend Classes Christmas morning... The present day school building opened January 1st 1945 and serves current students through high school graduationnext year... After World War II enrollment slowly declined until 2002 when comprehensive methods were tried resulting in exponential growth followed by stable enrollment thru 2006 .... Starting off slowly back into single digits again through 2007 ended up reaching 10% growth categories during 2008-2009 which resulted[in] substantial state funding infusion.... From 2000 thru 2006 total retail sales here approximated $92K annually however this dropped rapidly below $50K………. Today we have approximately 2 dozen businesses active primarily providing services & supplies within walking distance….. Over 60% rural POP resides within ½ mile radius….. Crestwood was founded by farmers in 1836. The town grew rapidly and by 1860 had a population of over 100 people. Crestwood became an important transportation hub, and its sawmill quickly became the biggest in the area. In the 1870s, Crestwood began to grow into a small city, with around 200 residents. By the early 1900s, Crestwood had reached its peak as a commercial center and had developed into one of the most important communities in northwestern Missouri. However, during World War I, Crestwood was hit hard by the war effort and lost much of its population. In the late 1920s and early 1930s, however, Crestwood resumed its rapid growth and reached a peak of around 300 residents. During World War II, again though not directly related to military activity, Crestwood experienced significant growth as it emerged as an important munitions production center for northwest Missouri. Today, Crestwoods population is still over 300 people - making it one of the most populous communities in northwestern Missouri.
