Crestwood is a small town in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,918 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City Metropolitan Statistical Area. Crestwood is located on the western edge of the city of Kansas City and it shares boundaries with both neighborhoods of Midtown and Westport. The first settlers in Crestwood were men who had fled from a slave trade expedition that captured them in 1785. They started a farm on what is now Main Street and named it after their leader, Colonel John Cloyd (1747-1812). The town was platted in 1814 by entrepreneur James Moulton Saunders and named for him. Saunders had been associated with the British East India Company and had voyaged to India to purchase goods for his company's merchants there before he founded Crestwood. Crestwood developed slowly until about 1870 when an agricultural depression caused many farmers to leave their land for other businesses or returns to slavery. However, due to its location on Route 66 near the major east-west road artery, Crestwood continued to grow rapidly throughamanufacturing industries such as shoes, cigars, boots, leather products and hardware until World War II when they switched to military production due to shortages in other markets postwar eras because of laissez faire economic policies by president Franklin D Roosevelt's New Deal administration

Crestwood is a small town in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Springfield metropolitan area. The first people to inhabit Crestwood were the Potawatomi tribe. In 1812, Colonel John Pope and his troops discovered gold in what is now Crestwood while exploring land grants near Raystown through the Illinois Country Purchase. As a result of this discovery, many pioneers from Illinois decided to settle in what is now Crestwood and other portions of St. Francois County during the 1840s-60s period. The early years of Crestwood's history were very difficult because there was no water available to drink or grow crops. However, thanks to some investment by local merchants and farmers who supplied goods necessary for life in pioneer days such as flour, sugar beets, milk and hay - as well as donations from Methodist missionaries - development slowly began to take hold in Crestwood during the late 1800s and into the 1900s. In 1907, when two brothers named George Wirth founded Wirth Paper Company on Main Street in Crestwood - one of which still operates today - Crestwood quickly became an important paper center for central Missouri due to its location just twenty miles north of Rolla on I-40/ Route 66 (the only Expressway access then). With its thriving paper industry came strong civic involvement including serving on numerous town councils throughout the years; becoming known for their unyielding support of public education even going so far as refusing to let any private schools open within reach; and being prominently featured on many rural community calendars throughout northwestern Missouri due to their dedication to keeping things "just that way". During World War II much activity took place within and around central Missouri due primarily to military production needs – including large amounts of aluminum used for tanks and planes; printing materials needed for war bonds; automotive parts produced at three hundred sites statewide; truckloads of coal destined for Drive-in Hill Plant near Decatur; cottonseed oil used by Monsanto Lime & Chemical Works (now part of Dow Agrochemicals) along with other industrial areas across central Missouri responsible for supporting American war efforts beyond simply supplying food items essential for soldiers fighting overseas hostilities Headquartered at Fort Worth Army Air Field – all operations were conducted without interruption regardless of weather conditions which led directly thereto – both locally sourced goods like flour and cigarettes but also imported materiel including gasolineoline etc., making this one significant regional center engaged deeply in wartime production alongside plants located elsewhere in Illinois country
