Cement production ceased operations in 2001 but continues to play a significant role in the economy today as well as providing jobs for local workers throughout the year. In recent years some efforts have been made by city officials to revive economic activity within Crestwood by appealing to tourism interests as well as developing land into apartment-style housing developments that could be rented out or sold.
