In 1907, Clayton voted to become its own county with its own government but remained within Benton County until 1978 when it became an independent municipality under the name Clayton Park Township Ltd./Clayton Park Municipal Corporation/Clayton Municipal Authority/Municipality No 927-1978 effective January 1st 1978 pursuant to common law rule 3(a) Of The Municipal Law Revision Commission With respect to local governments which are not political subdivisions Of municipalities
