Clayton, MO is known for its gun pouches. The first guns in Clayton were made with leather pouches and later, with canvas. In 1857, the town council decided to make their own pistols and rifle cartridges out of lead-based ammo. This led to the production of pistol and rifle pouches by local printers. The town's first store was built on Main Street in 1865. Clayton was incorporated as a city in 1871. Gun pouches continued to be produced until around 1940 when they became less common due to hardening of metal from bullets and other projectiles.

The Clayton Gun Pouch Company was founded in 1907 by G.W.D. Howell, a local gunsmith and firearms dealer. In 1919, the Clayton Gun Pouch Company merged with another Missouri-based firearms manufacturer, the Armoury Firearms Corporation, to form Armoury Arms Corporation.
Clayton is located in the far western corner of Missouri, about fifteen miles west of St. Louis and thirty-five miles east of Kansas City. The citizens are largely German and English born, while the native Indian population remains very large. The town was founded by David Clayton in 1834 on a tract of land that had been owned by his father, Daniel Clayton. It grew rapidly during the early years of its existence, and by 1840 it had a population of over one thousand people. In 1847, David Clayton sold his share in the town to John Sennett, who developed it into an important transportation center for central Missouri. After Sennett's death in 1850, the town passed through several hands until it came into the possession of James Hinton in 1876. On January 1, 1886, it became part of Johnson County when that county was organized. In 1926, Clayton went through a series of significant changes which have helped make it one of the most important towns in Johnson County. First were the construction of Interstate 70 which bisects the town from north to south; this development has made Clayton an ever more popular tourist destination for those living near St. Louis and Kansas City as well as for those visiting these areas on business or pleasure trips. Second were changes in zoning laws which allowed for greater development within certain boundaries; this has resulted in increased commercial activity within the limits surrounding Claytonshire Square Shopping Center and at other nearby buildings dating back to World War II when these structures served as military barracks used by local soldiers stationed here during their hostilities against their German counterparts across the river at Omaha! Finally there was a change in demographics brought about by baby boomer retirements which led to an increase in residences being built along country roads outside Claytonshire Square Shopping Center; this trend is continuing today as retirees increasingly prefer smaller towns with fewer amenities close to home instead of sprawling metropolitan area with numerous shopping venues only accessible via car or bus!
In the early 1800s, a variety of straps and buckles were used to secure firearms in pouches. The earliest known example of a firearm pouch was found at Tel-Aviv University in 1892. This pouch consisted of an inner cloth strap with two brass circles riveted to it, and an outer fabric strap with five brass circles riveted to it. It is speculated that this pouch was used as a holster for a rifle. A later example of a firearm pouch was found at Be’er Sheva Museum in 1957. This pouch consisted of an inner cloth strap with four brass circles riveted to it, and an outer fabric strap with six Brass circles riveted to it. It is probable that this pouch was also used as a holster for a rifle. During World War I, various types of ammunition pouches were developed by European manufacturers. One type featured three rings on the outside of the pocket where ammunition could be stored (i.e., “bunny ear” style). Another type featured four rings on the outside of the pocket where ammunition could be stored (i.e., “tiger cock” style). A third type featured ten brass circles located around the circumference of the pocket (i.e., “snowshoe” style). During World War II, Axis forces discovered different types of ammo pouches made by Allied manufacturers such as Deuter and Browning which were designed specifically for their armies' needs during the war effort. These ammo pouches typically included: one or more loops on either end for attaching grenades or mortar rounds; one or more straps around each side for carrying munitions; and one or more compartments within the pockets for holding ammunition, explosives, or other important items.[1]
