Clayton, MO is a city in Jackson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 21,527 at the 2010 census. It is part of the St. Louis metropolitan area. The community began as a log-and-thatch settlement on the east bank of the Missouri River in 1811. By 1828, it had developed into an agricultural center with two sawmills and sixty miles (100 km) of railroad running through it. In 1856, Clayton became the county seat of Jackson County after being given to it by Congress for having "the most intelligent and enterprising people". A cotton gin was built there in 1870 and named for General Nathaniel Lyon who helped create the Mississippi Valley Railroad in that year. In 1865, Clayton's first post office opened with six mail boxes and three passengers receiving mail from Saint Louis daily. By 1890, there were twenty-one mailboxes and four riders receiving mail each day from St. Louis alone; this made Clayton one of the largest southern cities without an express service then available to its residents! In 1903, an electric light plant was built in Clayton which made it possible for citizens to have electricity during their daylight hours instead of relying on oil lanterns or candles while they worked! The growth of industry led to more than one hundred businesses opening up throughout Clayton before World War II brought about significant declines in business activity which caused many storefronts to close until finally revitalized during the late 1990s when new businesses started up again including two grocery stores and a clothing store! Today, Clayton is home to several large banks as well as numerous small businesses providing jobs for its residents despite some struggles with economic recession brought about by globalization and other technological advances such as online shopping malls which have taken over much local retail space once occupied by small family operated businesses!

After years of growth and development by merchants, farmers, and Drury-Williams lumber company owners (the first tree-cutting operation in Butler County), the population of Clayton reached 2,000 by 1885. This decade also saw dramatic innovation when woodchips became available to be processed into boards at an early age as mills refused to take them due to their high price tag per board. Thanks to advances such as this – along with increased transportation costs brought on by railroad construction – production slowed somewhat during the late 1800s before increasing again during World War I with more trees being cut down for military purposes (a phenomena known as "Army Timber"). The end result of all this growth was that by 1930 only about 200 people lived within a radius of downtown Clayton proper while another thousand or so lived scattered around rural areas immediately surrounding it: an area now designated Downtown Clayton Historic District). With no clear plan for how to handle future growth or maintain its vibrancy after World War II ended – aside from some large-scale reclamation projects – most residents elected not to return after that time period either; turning much of what had once been vibrant housing stock into places where only a few decades ago fields could still be seen (e.g., Springdale AvenueEast Business Park today). However much has changed since then; with many businesses having closed or relocated over the past 15 years or so because they couldn't find customers willing to pay above-market prices for properties located close enough but far enough away from anything resembling urban amenities like restaurants/stores/bars etc.). Despite this recent history though; Downtown Clayton retains much of its character including rowdy nightlife if you're looking for it; along with several historic buildings remaining standing which are open to public tours year round!

Today, these systems are still widely used by shooters across all different calibers and platforms throughout the world due their simplistic design and easy accessibility.

In 1915, a new football stadium was built in Clayton and served as the home of the local high school from 1915 to 1978. In 1934, Highway 66 was created when it was rerouted through central Missouri. The highway runs through Clayton and is one of the most traveled routes in central Missouri.
