It wasn’t until 1916 when George Stephenson developed and patented the Stephenson Gun which became known as the “Clayton Gun” because it was manufactured there. This gun used a rotating bolt action to fire pellets into the atmosphere from an open breech utilizing compressed gas instead of coal or shot powder. This invention led to what is now called “air Guns” because they use helium-filled balloons or hydrogen gas tanks) which required no reloading time once fired and could be targets at will with ease! In 1919, William Jourdan began manufacturing his own types of airguns under his name Jourdan Firearms Corporation out of Dexter,MO (now Prairie Village). These guns utilized either water-cooled mercury vapor cartridges or oil-fired CO2 cartridges which caused them to explode on impact! Apparently this caused some damage as one firearm even caught on fire after being discharged! However, Jourdan Firearms Corporation continued production until their bankruptcy in 1951; however their legacy lives on today as one of America’s most popular manufacturers of airguns!

In 1840 the family moved to what is now south edge of Clayton from Camden Township due to flooding that year caused by a severe thunderstorm near Cairo on the Mississippi River. Many farmers in this area lost their crops because of the storm and it forced them to move out of their homes for a time until they could rebuild or find new land to work on. In 1865 some families moved into what is now north side of Clayton from Carthage Township when that township was split between Clay and Stark counties due to an effort by General Order No 1066 which called for all citizens of St Francois County to move within seven miles (11 km) of any military installation or post within its bounds without giving advance notice. This order covered most of northwest Missouri including Clay county which included Clayton and many other towns in southwesternSt Francois County
