Chesterfield is a small town in Clay County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,970 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to visit Chesterfield was Captain John Smith on his trip from St. Louis to Fort Totten on October 14, 1763. He named the place "Chesterfield" after himself and marked the location with a rock he had brought back from his journey. The first permanent settler in Chesterfield was James Hinkle who arrived in 1806. Hinkle's family moved to what is now West Chesterfield and developed that area into one of the most important towns in Clay County during the 19th century. In 1827, Ira Cope discovered oil near West Chesterfield and began production of this valuable commodity which led to increased business for local businesses including J P Geddes' mercantile store which became known as "The Geddes Oil House." By 1830, over 50 people were working at J P Geddes' store and it had become what is today known as "The Geddes Petroleum Company". In 1857, Wm Fenton sold his interest in The Geddes Petroleum Company to George Stephenson for $2 million(). Stephenson renamed the company Stephenson-Geddes Corporation and started production of kerosene from shale nearby. With this new venture came increased industry opportunities for both men - George Stephenson worked day and night 365 days a year while Wm Fenton only managed 6 hours per day! During World War II (1939-1945), Chesterfield contributed many soldiers through their local VFW Post #433 which raised money for troops overseas through selling candy bars called war bonds (the proceeds went towards supporting American troops). One such postman who served throughout World War II was Fredrick Bowers who was born in Chesterfield on December 12th 1915 and died there July 5th 2006 aged 95 years old after serving with distinction during World War II including being awarded two Purple Hearts and three Bronze Stars! After World War II ended hostilities ceased within America however not all wars are fought by armies or nations but sometimes they are fought internally amongst individuals or groups like those associated with American VFW Post 433 during World War II where candy bars continue to be sold today!

They named their new town after their home state of England because they could not find a place to settle down in Missouri. The first store in Chesterfield was built by Hosea Wilson and his family on Court Avenue in 1851. One of the many businesses that thrived during the early days of Chesterfield was its school system which operated from 1850 until 1915. In that time, it had thirty-six schools - thirteen for girls and thirteen for boys - serving students fromresidential areas as well as farmsteads and rural outposts. Many residents also worked at local businesses such as grocery stores, banks, mines, lumber yards and more. When World War I started, however, many people pulled back from work because of military service; however, businessactivity resumed later when soldiers returned home. By 1920, Chesterfield had grown substantially with several thousand residents living on both sides of High Street between Fourth and Fifth Streets. During the late 1800s and early 1900s there were significant changes taking place throughout central Missouri due to railroad construction projects across that stateline which altered transportation patterns and caused various communities along the east-west corridor to grow rapidly (Chesterfield being one such community). This change led to increased job opportunities for those who needed them while also resulting in increased popularity among citizens for shopping within walking distance or even taking public transportation to reach their destinations (something that was still possible up until about 1960). One particular development which significantly impacted Chesterfield during this period was the erection of an apartment block adjacent to High Street known as Tower Square (renamed Towers Place after moving into place) which served as both a social hub for locals as well as a commercial center for businesses operating within easy reach (such as dry goods stores) . And finally during World War II there was an influx of soldiers – many female – who required housing closer than usual so developers erected barracks nearby known locally simply as "Queen's Row." With growing demand for housing following hostilities ended nationally; prices began dropping quickly which contributed directly to decreases seen throughout much central Missouri marketplaces following 1945 including Castle Pointe Springs , Florissant Heights , Carthage Heights etc.; although these neighborhoods have since experienced some modest growth over time especially near University City .)
