Chesterfield is a town in Jackson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,354 at the 2010 census. Chesterfield is part of the Springfield, MO-KS Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what would become Chesterfield was James Caldwell, who arrived in 1836. Caldwell's son John erected the first store and post office in the town on Fourth Street. In 1838, pioneer Solomon Haines settled in what would become Chesterfield and built a log cabin on his farm which remains standing today as a historical landmark. In 1857, Samuel Morse founded the Central Pacific Railroad through Chesterfield and neighboring towns to bring goods to market near Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. By 1860, Chesterfield had a population of 350 residents with three stores and one bank. That year also saw the founding of the Methodist Church by Revs Fenton Waddell and William Greenough with classes starting on October 1st. By 1870, due to increasing transportation needs associated with industry such as farming and manufacturing along with natural disasters such as floods that struck much of northwestern Missouri during that time period (including parts of Chesterfield), over 1,000 people had moved into or were moving into Chesterfieldizer communities throughout Jackson County because of its potential for development as an agricultural center due to its fertile land and good water supply; this area now includes most of downtown Springfield including many buildings dating back to that time including Pritchard's Store (now known as Town Hall). The first school building in what would become Chesterfield was built by Cephus Jarvis III on Highland Avenue northwest of present day Main Street around 1871 when teaching began there for five years before being moved to Second Street east after two years due to lack of space at First Street which still served as city streets at that time! This school building still stands today next door to Pritchard’s Store where it served from1871-1875! One can still visit this School Building today! On October 8th 1890 within days after General Sherman entered Missouri from Tennessee he ordered all trains coming out of Hannibal be stopped so passengers could be unloaded onto the road so he could tour some bridges across Clay River near Rolla his forces were about 4 miles away we didn't have no roads then so I knowed how they did it

Chesterfield, Missouri is a small town in northwest Missouri, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield metropolitan area. Chesterfield was founded by white settlers in 1837 and named for General Robert Chesterfield, who served as a brigadier general in the Union army during the American Civil War. The first store in Chesterfield opened on Main Street in 1838. By 1840, there were two stores and four blacksmiths operating in Chesterfield. In 1846, local farmers established a stagecoach service from downtown Springfield to Chesterfield three times per week. The Post office operated from 1850 until it closed in 1861 due to low mail volume. A primary industry early on was farming; however, over time manufacturing became more prevalent with businesses such as a furniture factory (1860), an oil refinery (1869), and a zinc mine starting up between the late 1860s and 1870s. A sawmill also began operations circa 1870 but ceased production about 1880 because of competition from new mills built around that time around Springfield and elsewhere within the region. In 1896, brick manufacturers organized into one company to compete against other brickmakers throughout America; this led to construction of what is now known as "the Brick Belt" west of town where many of these companies built their factories along Illinois Route 66 including John Latta & Sons (1901-1963), Werk's Mfg Co.(1907-1971), Electrolux (1925-1991) and others which have left lasting memories behind even after centuries since they were built! It wasn't until after World War II when large industries such as auto parts plants started arising due to advances made during that war like nylon threading used for parachutes etcetera which has helped define this era for many people hereabouts! After being abandoned by these larger industrial conglomerates during post-war years most residents decided to move out or sell their homes back home during those years although some did stay through hard times like when gas rationing took effect again beginning in 1948 which had devastating effects on local economy!
