By 1860, the community had a post office, school, and two churches. In 1865, a railroad was built through Chesterfield and began to bring people into the community. This increased business opportunities which led to more housing development and creation of new streets and businesses around downtown. In 1902, an oil well was drilled in nearby Butler County and shortly afterwards production began at the Sheffield Oil Field on Indian Creek northeast of town. This created an increase in demand for goods and services available in town as well as more jobs for residents. Businesses grew rapidly during this time with many developing into large companies such assteel magnate Andrew Carnegie's Carnegie Steel Company (now ArcelorMittal)and J P Morgan & Co.'s Peabody Coal Mining Company (now Peabody Energy). Thanks to these growth opportunities, many people moved to Chesterfield over time; however it wasn't until after World War II that the population really reached its current level of 4,918 residents residing within city limits only! Chesterfield was a town in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,717 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. The first settler in Chesterfield was Nicholas Davenport in 1816. A post office called Chesterfield was established in 1821, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1848. The town grew rapidly due to its location on the Platte River and its access to transportation including a ferry across the river. In 1824, an act were passed which allowed for two miles (3 km) of road to be built leading from Chesterfield east to I-435 nearKansas City. This new road played an important role in helping increase commerce and development within the town and helped make it one of the most popular destinations for tourism within central Missouri during the 19th century. During World War II, as many as 100 businesses located along I-435 were put into use by soldiers stationed at Fort Riley General Hospital No 1 to help with military production needs such as munitions and food supplies. The war also led to increased business activity within Chesterfield thanks to its proximity to manufacturing plants operated by both American and German manufacturers; these factories produced items such as tanks, planes, artillery pieces, shipbuilding materials and clothing among other things. After the war ended, many of these factories closed down but some continued operations until they closed altogether around 1990s due to economic conditions within America at that time.
