Chesterfield is a city in Chester County, Missouri, United States. The population was 5,539 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. The name "Chesterfield" comes from the Chester family of English origin who lived there in early days. The first white settlers in what is now Chesterfield were George Washington and his brother James (Jimmie) Washington. They came there as part of the great wagon train that crossed the West during the 1800s. In 1821, they founded a small community called Harmony on the east side of Cheshire Creek. When James died in 1825, George took over leadership of the small settlement and continued to build up it until his death in 1830. harmony was abandoned after only a few years when an Indian raid destroyed most of their crops and livestock and drove them out of town. In 1853, Isaac Norris established a farmstead on land which he had purchased from Jens Hansen for $2 per acre (about $40 per year). Norris moved his family to Chesterfield from Illinois soon after its founding; he became one of its first residents and served as postmaster and justice of peace. He also developed local businesses such as shoeshine parlors and livery stable while living in town. That same year, Egyptus Morse arrived with his family from Mississippi to pursue farming opportunities near Topeka but found little success due to salt marshes near his farmstead- so he returned home to start anew about two miles south of where he had started out on Meeting Street (now Main Street). Morse's descendants still live there today along with other members of his household who ran various businesses around town: Chinese laundry service provider Mrs. Chiu operated her business upstairs from a Department Store; ice cream vendor Joe Blythe offered cones outside during summertime; grocery store owner Pritzker kept an oven open all winter long for customers who brought their own food; barber shopkeeps did their own haircuts; blacksmith shop built byNorris allowed inhabitants to learn how to forge weapons; etc.; among others.) It wasn't until 1870 that railroads reached Chesterfield through nearby Vandalia County - this opened up new commercial opportunities for the community including several stores built on either side of Route 66 bypassing downtown KCMO altogether! By 1880, residents had erected several churches including First Baptist Church which remains today oneof KCMO's most iconic landmarks/ symbols! Chesterfield is located in Chesterfield County, Missouri. The community was named for General Benjamin Chesterfield, who fought in the American Revolution. The first settler in Chesterfield was John Brougham, who built a cabin on what is now the outskirts of town in 1820. In 1825, James Wills discovered oil shale near where Chesterfield now sits and began drillings for oil. By 1830, drilling had produced enough oil to provide fuel for locomotives and other industry until production stopped around 1850.
