After the American Civil War ended in 1865, guns continued to be smuggled into Missouri from neighboring states. By 1886, however, stricter regulations had begunto take hold in Missouri following several mass shootings that occurred there that year. These regulations led to an increase in production within Carthage but also encouraged local manufacturers to move away from handguns entirely and focus on rifles and shotguns instead.

The Carthage Rifle and Pistol Club was founded in 1879. The club enjoyed success until the early 1900s, when World War I interrupted their activities. In 1919, the club resumed its operations with a new armory, which they continued to use until 1949. During this time, the club also developed a close relationship with local gunsmiths.
Carthage, Missouri is a small town located in Jackson County, Missouri. The population was 781 at the 2000 census. Carthage is one of the oldest settlements in Jackson County. It was founded by Captain John Carter in 1768 as a trading post on the east bank of the Missouri River. The first settler in Carthage was James Hickey and his family who arrived in 1769. William Hickey settled near Carthage in 1771 and built a house which still stands today. Nathaniel Bacon, also from New Hampshire settled near Carthage about this time and built a cabin. In 1802, Ebenezer Matson arrival to plat out part of what is now known as Carthage Township on land that he had purchased from Major James Dixon for $200.Moses Fenton came to live around this time and erected a log cabin on the north side of Main Street between West First Street and East Second Street. This building still stands today and is known as Fenton’s House. In 1811, captain John Carter sold his holdings on the east bank of the Missouri River to General Samuel Benton for $4,000 cash plus an annual rent of $50 Beaver Dam Creek (now called Hannibal). When Benton moved his army across the river into Illinois in 1812 he left behind him two large cedar trees which served as courthouse markers until they were destroyed by fire some years later..Captain John Carter’s daughter Jane married Daniel Boone at Carthage on December 12th, 1820 just days after Boone had discovered what became known as Springfield, Illinois.. Daniel Boone started mining coal hereabouts when he visited Carthage about this time.. In 1830 Captains Lewis & Clark passed through these woods while exploring yellowstone country west of St Louis.. It has been said that they sighted Mount Carbine rising above those hills while journeying through our township .. There are several old buildings remaining standing hereabouts including Davis Hall (named for General David Davis) where many public meetings were held during early days when both localities boasted newspapers .. Today’s Village Hall was built around 1870 by Jno Pugh using parts salvaged from DavisHall .. Most recently “The Ark” restaurant has occupied this building since it opened its doors back in 2003 .. At present there are only 3 residents living permanently within walking distance of downtown: Mrs Gertrude Willingham; Dr Mike Reitzel; & their dog Buddy Captain JohnCarter's Daughter Jane Married Daniel Boone at Carthaga December 12th 1830 just days after Boone had discovered what became known as Springfield IL

These programs were typically based around activities or characters related to guns such as target shooting, lock picking or handloading. Carthage, Missouri is a city in Pulaski County, Missouri, United States. The population was 5,402 at the 2010 census. Carthage is the county seat of Pulaski County. It was founded on October 6, 1837 by John Ladd and his family. The town was named for Carthage in North Africa where the Ladds lived before coming to America. The first post office in Carthage was established on October 3, 1839. On November 1, 1840, it became the first village in Pulaski County when it incorporated as a town. The name of Carthage originated from its location near Tunis in North Africa and came about because of plans for an international slave trade that never materialized. On December 8, 1861, Confederate General Robert Ewell arrived at Hannibal from Corinth with 711 soldiers and cannons to attack Union forces under Brigadier General Don Carlos McCulloch at Pea Ridge outside of Cairo Junction MO. After two days of combat including several artillery engagements (the most intense being a 14-hour gun battle), McCullahoch withdrew his troops to Cairo Junction while Ewell continued his advance into Union territory north of Cairo Junction with little opposition other than skirmishes with local militiamen and occasional ambushes by Union forces on their march back southward down the Arkansas River valley towards Springfield IL. Aftermath: In 1865 Union troops burned down much of Carthage during what is known as "The Burning" or "The Destruction."
The Carthage, Missouri tornado outbreak was a series of tornadoes that struck the U.S. state of Missouri in late November 2006. The outbreaks occurred in the towns of Carthage and Greenville, and the hardest hit area was Carthage; it alone accounted for three fatalities.
