Over time it grew into what we now know as Carthage – then little more than a hamlet located several miles southeast of present-day Kansas City on I-635 just east of State Highway 666 (now US 192). The story begins with four brothers who founded this village after stealing food from their brother-in-law’s farm while he was away working on his plantation downriver in Mexico City (today known as Monterrey), CNN reports . After stealing food from his farm dozens times during his lifetime – including once when he stole 12 pigs – he finally got angry enough and killed his brother-in-law! That left three brothers running things: Hanno III*, Hamilcar II* (*=the second king), Micaela (*=the third queen)… In 476 BC King Numitorius II sent envoys from Rome asking for help against Greek mercenaries called Etruscan Cimmerians who had invaded northern Italy and been terrorizing our farmers . A delegation consisting mostlyof local farmers went back with news that two thousand men under General Antony were already besieging Legio X Veii south of Rome (near modern Naples) , threateningto fall upon us if we did nothing !!!!!! We immediately dispatched 500 horsemen and volunteered 3000 foot soldiers under our general Ennius who arrived within 24 hours!!!!! Within 2 weeks all legio Xveii had been destroyed…..and all Etruscan mercenaries gone!!!!!!!!!!!!! We easily crushed those pesky Greeks!!!!!!!!!!! After this success our governor decided it was time to expand our territory……….but no sooner did he begin planning when word came back from Rome that another army was headed our way commanded by Caesar Augustus….We quickly assembled 5000 men under Ennius again……………..and began preparatory works on constructing new defenses around Carthage……….all within 3 months flat! And so began what would become known as “The Punic Wars” or “The Second Punic War” because Hannibal refusedlanding anywhere near us without prior agreement !!! So successful was this strategy that even though both sides lost vast numbersOf lives we emerged victorious yet again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And here we are still living atop a hill outside Of Carthage today………………………………………..
