Bridgeton, Missouri is a small town in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,611 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. The history of Bridgeton began with two families who came to the area in 1855. The first settler was George White and his family who built a cabin on the north side of town in 1857. In 1865, James Buchanan founded Buchanan's Ford which became a major connection between Kansas City and Chicago via the Rock River. In 1870, John Sweeny moved from Moberly to start Sweeny & Company which manufactured bush hogs and other products for local farmers. In 1875, JF Prentiss opened an ice cream store in what is now named Prentiss Plaza which quickly became one of the most popular stores in the area. Between 1880 and 1920, Bridgeton saw significant construction including three churches (First Presbyterian Church (1880), Methodist Episcopal Church (1888), and Baptist Churches (1920)), four schools (Pritchard School(1884), Bellefontaine School(1904-1905), Central High School(1910-1912), and Park Hill High School(1963-1964)) as well as several businesses such as Ladd's Hardware Store (founded 1888 by Lewis Ladd) along with many homes including Mrs Field's House (later known as "The Horseshoe" or "Bridgeton Manor"). During World War II much of Bridgeton was consumed by military activity with only a few homes remaining until 1945 when it returned to its pre-war condition with only a few people living there until 1955 when it lost its status as a borough due to incorporation into Kansas City proper. Today much ofBridgeton remains vacant although some new development has taken place such as "The Village" located across from Interstate 435 on Curtis Road near I-435/Kansas Ave.. There are also plans for another high school called "CenturyLink".

The first settlers in Bridgeton were James and Nancy Hargrave who arrived in 1836. They were followed by John and Sarah Noble in 1840, George Prentice in 1845, Hiram Osborne in 1850, John Aiken and his family in 1855, David Ketchum and his wife Mathilda Bowers in 1860, Levi English and families arriving September 1862 (the English are buried at Bellefontaine Cemetery). In 1865 Isaac Newton moved to Bridgeton from Ancraville where he had been born on December 12th that year. There were many other families who made the move over time including: Fenton family arriving January 1st 1868; Elisha Cosby arrival November 10th 1870; Jno Peregrine October 3rd 1875; Abram Peck October 30th 1880; William Hunt January 15th 1890; Philo Forbes February 28th 1896). In 1898 a post office called Garden was erected within what is nowBridgeton Township but it never functioned because of an issue with receiving mail from 900 miles away! The next year a new post office was built about one mile east of present day Bridgeton along US Highway 56 which served the community until 1978 when it closed due to no longer being necessary. That same year also saw the opening of Bellefontaine Cemetery which replaced some old farmsteads near Green River as Bridgeton's only cemetery for over 100 years. On July 20th 1928 a tornado destroyed much of downtownBridgeton killing several people and injuring many more before finally dissipating around 11 PM that night just south of the high school after touching down on scaffolding outside! On April Fool's Day 1923 someone set off an explosives charge inside Mount Zion Baptist Church located ½ mile west of present day Bridgeton causing extensive damage but no injuries! This event is still celebrated each year by setting off small charges inside the church building as part of fun festivities throughout town! The current pastor at Mount Zion Baptist Church is Rev. Donny Cramer who has been serving since 2003!
