Bridgeton is a small town in the Ozarks of Missouri. It is located on the south bank of the Arkansas River, about 20 miles (32 km) east of Topeka, Kansas. The population was 7,914 at the 2010 census. Bridgeton began as an agricultural community and grew rapidly during the early years of the twentieth century due to its location on land that had been donated by General George Armstrong Custer. By 1920, Bridgeton had over 10,000 residents and was home to two banks and four churches. However, during World War II Bridgeton's economy suffered as a result of fighting in Europe and Japan. In 1950, however, it regained some prosperity when nearby Wichita State University moved to Bridgeton and increased job demand. Over time, however, Bridgeton's demographics have changed again - now it is largely a bedroom community for Topeka

Bridgeton, Missouri is a small town in the northwestern corner of Missouri. The population was 2,017 at the 2000 census. It was founded by farmers in 1838. The town has been home to a number of businesses and families since it first appeared on maps. The town was renamed Bridgeton in 1917 after General John A. Bridgeton, who fought in World War I and later served as United States Ambassador to Great Britain. The history of Bridgeton can be traced back to 1838 when farmers settled in the area and named it "Bridgeton." In 1907, Bridgeton became part of St. Louis County and was given its current name of "Bridy." Today, the main business district around the high school is called "The Village," while other districts include "Olde Towne" and "The Rancho." In 1917, General John A. Bridgeton donated land for a new community in central Missouri which would eventually become known as Bridgeton. At that time, many people were moving from farm towns into cities because of new opportunities for work due to World War I. The move into town started slowly with only a few residents moving into what would become known as "Olde Towne." However, over time more people arrived and soon enough there were residents living throughout all three districts: Olde Towne; The Rancho; and The Village. As development continued along this corridor, more businesses began to open up including restaurants, bars/nightclubs, health clubs/spas, churches/temples and even an amusement park! By the early 21st century there had been growth within all three districts totaling over 1 million people! This growth has made Brditon one of the most popular places to live in Missouri thanks largely to its infrastructure - namely its excellent schools system which have consistently ranked among the best in the state since 1975!
Bridgeton was founded in 1827 by Captain Samuel Bridgeton and his family. The town was named for Brigadier General Christopher Bridgeton, an American hero who fought in the Mexican-American War. In 1838, Captain Samuel Bridgeton donated land to the town for a public square. The first school in the town was built on this square in 1839. In 1840, the town had two stores and six houses. The population of Bridgeton increased from 30 to 100 during the 1850s because of out-migration from Jackson County to Kansas City and St. Louis due to gold discoveries at nearby flakes of gold in that decade. By 1860, there were ninety residents in Bridgeton and its square contained four churches, three stores, a blacksmith shop, a jail, a post office and five schools. After Missouri became a state in 1821, br>the county seat moved from Jefferson County to Springfield so that more people could be served by one government body In 1865, Captains John Sutherlin (1824-1901) and Amos Davenport (1828-1920) purchased 1/4 acre of land north of present day Buchanan Street east of Main Street for $225 They began construction on what is now known asCaptain Samuel's House which they completed in 1870 The house still stands today as part of downtownBridgeton's History Museum
