There is no question that the history of firearms in Bolivar, Missouri dates back to at least 1873. That year, local citizens petitioned the state legislature to establish a gunsmithing school in order to improve and maintain the arms of the community. The request was granted and the first school opened its doors in September of that year. In addition, a rifle range and pistol range were also established within minutes of each other. Over time, various organizations have been responsible for maintaining and expanding the gunsmithing program in Bolivar. One such organization was the National Rifle Association (NRA). In 1945, NRA representatives donated $5000 to help fund a new armory that would be used by the Bolivar Police Department. Additionally, NRA members helped finance another armory project which was completed in 1957. This project involved building an additional rifle range as well as constructing a pistol range. The Bolivar Police Department has always possessed one of the most stringent handgun regulations in all of Missouri. Consequently, it is not surprising that there are very few pistols or rifles available for sale on any given day outside of government-owned stores. However, this does not mean that individuals cannot purchase firearms here; it simply means that they must do so through licensed dealers who are subject to government regulation and inspection.

Bolivar was a small town in Clay County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2000 census. It is now part of the Springfield, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. Bolivar was founded in 1824 by John Gentry and his brother-in-law James Robertson as a trading post on the Missouri River. By 1830, Bolivar had become an important center for fur trade due to its location on the Arkansas River and its access to Indian Territory (now Oklahoma). In 1846, when Mexico became a republic, BolivARevolutionary radical leader Simón Bolívar announced his secession from Clay County and proclaimed himself president of Venezuela. Over time, many other small towns in Clay County followed suit; by 1860 there were twenty-six towns operating in Clay County. In 1861, during the American Civil War, Bolívar's forces fought against Union forces under General Ulysses S. Grant at the Battle of Vaca Hidalgo near Mission Viejo on February 27th. Union casualties were high (more than three hundred killed), but Bolívar emerged victorious and returned to Venezuela with an overwhelming numerical advantage over Grant's army. Aftermath of the battle included widespread looting by Confederate forces and destruction of much property within miles of Vaca Hidalgo; this event has been called one of America's "biggest scandals" because it undermined public morale and stained America's reputation as a moral superpower during wartime. After Vaca Hidalgo, Bolívar turned his attention to creating a new Venezuelan Republic from scratch--a task that took many years and cost him great personal suffering. In 1865 he finally accomplished what he set out to do: create a functioning government after more than two centuries of Spanish rule in South America. This process resulted in high levels of social stability as well as economic progress that continue to this day; today Venezuelans enjoy some OFUnemployment rate below 7%. Despite these successes—and despite occasional bouts of political instability caused by simmering tensions between different parts of Venezuelan society—Bolívar remains oneof Venezuelan socialism's most celebrated chroniclers..
Bolivar was founded in 1836 by a group of American immigrants who named it for Spanish general Fernando Bolivar. The town quickly became a center of commerce and industry, and the name soon stuck. In 1854, Bolivar was renamed Clay County after General James K. Polk, president of the United States at the time. The county seat moved to Independence in 1875, and the community grew rapidly around it. By 1910, Bolivar had over 1,000 residents and was one of the most prosperous towns in Clay County. However, during World War I Bolivar's economy collapsed as many local businesses were destroyed or forced out by wartime austerity measures. Continued population growth however led to rising housing prices and limited available land in the area; by 1930 Bolivar had shrunk to just over 100 people. Today BolivAR remains an active community with a variety of cultural events throughout the year
