Bolivar is a small town in Cass County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,372 at the 2010 census. Bolivar is part of the Springfield, Missouri Metropolitan Statistical Area. Bolivar was named after Simón Bolívar, an 1821 Venezuelan independence leader and one of the leading figures in the Spanish American War of 1898. The flour mills that were built early in the century produced large quantities of flour for local consumption as well as export to Mexico City and other parts of South America. The mill closed in the 1960s but a small community still uses it as a storage facility for surplus products from other businesses in Bolivar. The first settler in Bolivar was John Hinson on January 6, 1836. He erected a cabin on what is now Hinson's Place within present day Bolivar Township. By 1840 more settlers had arrived and by 1849 there were ten buildings in bolivarian village with three churches and six stores established by European citizens living near Fort Smith (now Mission) Creek and then called "Indian Springs". In 1861 James Aiken purchased land east of present day Bolivar Township from Jno Parkinson for $600 which he donated to Kansas Pacific Railroad Company Developers Association which developed into First National Banknorth side main street corner today where bank building still stands; this alley now known locally as "Aiken Alley" due to its location! In 1865 Isaac Niles bought 2 square miles (4 km²)of land north-west of present day Bolivarsouth side Main Street Corner @ US Highway 44 so he could start his own town called Nilesville name derived from his initials NS which signified North Side Backing Yards! His company started construction on what would become today's old courthouse square back then known simply as “Nilesville” located just east off US HIGHWAY 44 between Main & Griggs Streets until finally incorporation on November 15th 1870 under Act No 7362 passed by General Assembly & signed by Governor Thomas Ewing! This new town included alluvial soil deposited over many years during previous floods including some 12 feet deep at high water mark when river reached it’s current level downstream from damsite!! Today we see just two blocks south along railroad tracks once occupied by busy business district now home to only one store - that being original Courthouse Square mentioned earlier having been completely rebuild following devastating flood damage back in 2006!! After incorporation came much growth thanks to railroads coming through town including Hannibal Road Railroad Station becoming trade center with services available 24 hours per day/7 days per week thru out entire eastern Cass County!!! This also led to increased population density making alluvial soils even more important especially since most residents hereabouts lived close enough together for everyday goods shopping, farming etc!!! Today we have several dozen business owners & numerous residences scattered throughout rehabilitated downtown sqft block bordered by Rte 44 & Main St ever since ammonia plant fire devastated areaBACK THEN!!! very little left now except abandoned warehouses/ courtyards behind defunct businesses elsewhere

Bolivar and named for Venezuelan revolutionary Francisco de Miranda. The first post office opened in 1865, and the first store was built in 1866. The community took its name from General Francisco José de Bolívar who fought against Spanish rule in South America during the Venezuelan War of Independence (1811-1812). Bolivar has had a number of businesses since it formed as a town: a grocery store, an auto parts store, a millinery shop, and now an bait andtackle shop called Tackle Shop Internet Bait & Tackle LLC. In 2007 the town lost its high school which closed due to budget cuts by then-Mayor Tom Fenton. The current incarnation of Bolivar High School opened in September 2009 when East Carlin Central High School moved to new facilities on the opposite side of town from Bolivar Elementary School after years of use by both schools as overflow spaces for one another during summer recess/holidays). At that time there were justgrades 3-8 with no countdowns or building playspace available for students to explore during lunchtime or after school; this situation has been completely revamped with stateoftheart classrooms and programming including art classes, drama clubs (including world renown productions), music programs, National Honor Society programs ( includin g robotics), technology labsnascent memberships in multiple high tech companies such as Apple Inc., Intel Corp., Microsoft Corp., Dell Inc., Google Inc.), along with physical science classrooms that include Earth Science/Astronomy Laboratory (formerly Earth Science Magnet Middle School), Chemistry Lab (Former Earth Science Jr./Sr.) and Biology Lab (Former Earth Science Jr./Sr.). There are also dual enrollment opportunities with other local schools which allow students to earn college credits while still attending school full time!
