Blue Springs, Missouri is located in the Ozarks region of northeast Missouri. As of the 2010 census, the population was 14,751. The town was founded in 1837 and named for two springs which flow through it: Blue Spring and Bonanza Spring. During World War II, local farmers produced food for soldiers stationed at nearby Camp Hurlburt during World War II while also providing essential services such as clothing storage, fuel storage and agricultural support services to soldiers on maneuvers around the area. After World War II ended, many businesses closed or changed hands within the town limits; some that remain today include Jiffy Lube (now Jiffy Cleaners), Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company (later Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company), Prescott Paper Brokers Inc., First National Bank (laterFirst National Bank) and United States Steel Corporation (now UBS AG). Today much of what once constituted downtown Blue Springs has been demolished to make way for new development including shopping malls such as Overland Park Mall and Grandview Heights Mall; office buildings such as Chase Tower; residential structures including several high-rise condominiums; plus an American Legion Post Office building used by local Scout troops since 1971 which is now home to Spirit Woods Golf Course and multiple restaurants including Pinnacle Grille & Sports Bar/Bakery adjacent to Dick's Sporting Goods store that opened in 1978 adjoining Interstate 435 bridge across Hannibal River just east of I-435 exit #5 on US Highway 65 Boulevard near Churchill Downs Racecourse where NASCAR races have been held since 1977 It should be noted that not all blue springs businesses mentioned herein still exist or are active today - some have relocated or closed up shop over time... Blue Springs, Missouri is a small town in the U.S. state of Missouri that was established in 1837. The population was 1,642 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield-Springfield metropolitan area. The first post office in Blue Springs was established on December 7, 1838, and it remained open until it closed on March 3, 1865. The first settler in what is now Blue Springs was John Atkins who arrived in 1825 from Kentucky and founded a cabin near present-day Poplar Bluff. Atkins' cabin served as the nucleus for many early settlements around Blue Springs before being abandoned in 1839 due to lack of water access and resources. In 1840, two men named James Fenton and Lewis Hargrave located a wagon stop on the Arkansas River just south of present day Poplar Bluff while traveling downriver from Hannibal to Independence (now St Louis). They named their new settlement "Fenton's Ferry" after James Fenton and Lewis Hargrave, respectively members of their party who had traveled down river with them. soon thereafter they discovered that there were no natural springs available to provide water for their community so they developed an irrigation system by extracting groundwater from nearby hillsides utilizing canals which they built themselves or contracted out to local farmers. In addition to this self-reliance effort, Fenton also became one of the earliest investors into stereo music equipment when he purchased an early cotton gin at Rock Island Arsenal in 1855 for use as a retail store fronting onto Main Street in his community center. It wasn't until 1863 that railroad construction began through central Missouri along what is now I-435 and US-40 making Blue Springs possible as a commercial hub for much of eastcentral Missouri including Springfield which at that point only consisted of rural hamlets scattered among farmland surrounding Springdale Dam Lake). At its peak during World War II with over 30 businesses located within walking distance including several JCPenney stores as well as banks, insurance companies, hospitals and other major industrial establishments; blue SPRings boasted more than 2200 residents enjoying quality basic services such as phone service provider AT&T , grocery store Kroger , bank Wells Fargo & Company (later HSBC ) . However following World War II when industry shifted towards larger metropolitan areas throughout America; most blue SPRings businesses closed or relocated away leaving little physical evidence remaining about this once bustling community .
