Farrell and Fenton Waddell. It was operated by Postmaster Elias Hines and sold goods to residents of nearby towns such as Topeka and Kansas City. In 1860, a sawmill was built on the north side of the creek by James Meeks and brothers Samuel and Michael Meeks; this mill continued to be run until it closed around 1935. The first school opened in Blue Springs in 1863 by Mrs . Catherine Doddridge with five students from Topeka under her leadership; it taught basic reading, writing, arithmetic, geometry, astronomy/the sky etc.; later additions included music (1875), history (1878), science (1901) and physical education (1910). In 1865–66 Aiken & Company built a wagon road from Topeka to Blue Spring through Sedgwick County which connected with main roads west of Topeka This wagon road remains one of the most popular tourist trails today giving visitors access to all manner of scenic drives including some long stretches without any commercial activity whatsoever! Blue Springs, Missouri was founded in 1836 by Daniel Boone. The town was named for the bluebonnets that grew in the area. The first post office was established in Blue Springs in 1839. In 1862, the Union Army burned down the old courthouse, which is now a museum. In 1865, Blue Springs became a town and it has remained that way ever since. The population of Blue Springs peaked at over 20,000 in 1907 but has declined since then. Currently, the population of Blue Springs is around 10,000. The history of Blue Springs can be traced back to 1836 when Daniel Boone decided to settle in what is now known as Missouri after traveling through Kentucky and Tennessee looking for land to purchase. He found an area that he thought would be perfect for farming and named his new settlement after himself - Blue Spring Township. After purchasing some land from other settlers and building a few homes, Boone began trading goods with Indian villages near Columbia River until he finally reached Oregon in December 1837 while on his third trip to Western America. Upon his return journey home on July 4th of that year (1838), he discovered that much of present-day Missouri had been taken by war with Mexico and Arkansas under General Andrew Jackson - including parts of what is now Kansas and Nebraska! Monroe County had also been part of this conflict! Boone quickly organized a militia detachment to protect his property and prevent any further damage; this unit is still considered one of the most famous militia units during the American Civil War because it played such an important role protecting local farmers from Confederate raiding parties! In 1839, Blue Spring became an official town thanks to efforts by Isaac Hillman who served as its first mayor. As towns gradually developed throughout southeast Missouri due to increased travel times between cities due to wagon routes being built along both rivers combined with easy access to lumber resources available hereabouts (due especially to recent flooding caused by heavy rains), various businessmen pooled their money into establishing stores or becoming proprietors thereof; these men often did so because they were willing(or able)to operate outside conventional banking systems at this time!
