Blue Springs is one of two towns in Boone County and it shares a border with Lawrence Township to the east. As of the 2010 census, Blue Springs had an total population of 1,914 people. The first white person to settle in what is now Blue Springs was Captain John Stroud on November 20th, 1828. He founded a trading post on the bank of the Arkansas River about four miles west of present-day Blue Springs. Captain Stroud named his post "Old Fort Bluespring." The first store was opened in 1835 by Jno. Fenton and Wm Bemis who operated out of a log cabin on State Road C near present day Blue Springs Boulevard and Keystone Drive. This store remained open until 1860 when it burned down due to heavy rains along with many other buildings around that time period in Boone County as a result of Illinois's Indian War efforts which were ongoing at that time too! In 1868 James Kapp bought land from Captains Stroud and developed it into what is today known as Kapp Bluffs which extended all the way up to what is now US Highway 169 just south of Kapp's creek bed where I-40 crossed over from Missouri into Kentucky! At that point construction began on what would become known as "The Kapp Hotel" which first opened its doors December 15th 1870! Blue Spring residents enjoyed access to excellent fishing resources such as catfish, crappie and bass located both upstream (at Danforth Dam) and downstream (near present day Hwy 169). There also been some very good hunting opportunities for deer during this time period including most notably bear hunting taking place along Highways 362 and 168 between Lebanon (west) and Independence (east)! In addition there were much needed commercial activities being conducted here like groceries being sold by local farmers fresh from their fields through mail order then delivered right to your door!
