The name of the town came from one of its original landowners - John Belton - who named his estate "Belton". In 1892, Jens Rasmussen opened an ice cream parlor in what is now downtown Belton and started selling ice cream for sale to locals and visitors alike. This began what would be an important tradition in town: People coming to eat ice cream from their car or truck while they were on their way to see something else in town stopped by Rasmussen's shop for some refreshment before continuing on their way. The restaurant continued to serve up delicious treats until it closed down in 2003 when marketing restrictions made it difficult for businesses within walking distance of each other to compete successfully against neighboring towns with more spacious lots and easier access to public transportation. Today you can find remnants of Rasmussen's business still standing along Main Street as well as several souvenir shops that continue to sell local memorabilia related to old Rasmussen's days as a pioneer grocery store owner in BelleTON!

Belton is a town in Buchanan County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1834 by David Belton and his wife Elizabeth. The first store was built on the present site of the town in 1835. There were only 10 people living in Belton when it was founded. By 1840, the population had grown to 50 people and by 1860, there were 100 people living in Belton. In 1872, a post office called Bellefontaine was established in what is now Belton; it remained open until 1907. In 1903, the name of the town was changed to Belton after General Ulysses S. Grant's presidential campaign speech at Bellefontaine Hall near Bellefontaine Springs, Missouri. Belington is located at (41° 16' 38" N 89° 43' 04" W). According to the 2010 census,Belton has a total area of , of which (or 98%) is land and (or 2%) is water. The 1st National Bank Building stands today as one of only two surviving buildings from when Belton first began to grow as an agricultural center during its early years – it housed a bank with vault and currency exchange services from 1834-1836 before being replaced by what is now Town Hall & Courthouse on Main Street..today’s First National Bank building served as Post Office for almost 60 years until it closed down on October 9th 2006 due to budget cuts that year! Belleville Dam: Belleville Dam was constructed along both sides of Big Spring Creek between McMicken Barracks Road east of Belleville and State Highway I west of Belleville circa 1910s-1920s following work done by Moberly Electric Company surveyors under contract with USGS/NPS #1
