In 1907, the Belton Rifle Company merged with two other rifle companies to form the Springfield Armory Corporation. The Springfield Armory Corporation produced both rifles and handguns including revolvers (the Model 1911) as well as shotguns such as the Remington 870 pump-action shotgun. In 1978, Springfield Armory Corporation became part of Colt Firearms Incorporated which continues to produce firearms today under various brands including Colt Combat Center and Colt American Eagle Arms

In 1851, a railroad station was established at Belton and it became an important link in the transportation network for the region. By 1870, Belton had become one of the largest towns in Randolph County with over 1,000 residents and 10 businesses; it also boasted a high school and three newspapers (the "BelTON Courier" (1868-1914), "The Republican" (1870-1914), and "The Herald" (1871-1920)) In 1907, when Randolph County merged into St Louis County, Belton lost its status as an incorporated municipality but continued to enjoy certain privileges such as voting rights and property tax exemption from neighboring municipalities. However, by 1910 its population had decreased to 902 people while its economy remained largely agricultural until World War II when industry began to grow with new production facilities located along Interstate 63 near Bellefontaine Heights; however progress stalled thereafter due to heavy opposition from powerful local Democrats led by Mayor John Peebles Sr., who refused to allow suburbanization that would benefit his more populous neighbor across town A fire destroyed most of downtownBelleton on April 17th 1951 destroying much of what remain today of what once constituitively were two independently functioning cities:BelTON & BELTOWN Annexation Plans were drawn up between St Louis City & Bellefontaine Heights Township which Would have annexed ordinance #5444 granting full voting rights within their respective borders Backers organizations included many beltontown residents including then Mayor John Peebles Sr., 7th Ward Alderman Harry Bourgeois jr., 8th Ward Alderman Edward McNamara Jr., Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Deputy Andy Hannigan among others
