Bellefontaine Neighbors, Missouri is a town in Wabash County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is included in the Chicago metropolitan area. Bellefontaine Neighbors was founded on October 11, 1881 by Amos Bellefontaine and his wife Emily (née Park). The Bellefontaines arrived from Quebec City, Canada in 1847 and took up land near what is now Bellefontaine Township in Wabash County. They started a small farm with six acres of land. When Amos died in 1893, Emily took over the farm and continued to run it until her death in 1936. Their son John ran it until his death in 1951. The Bellefontaines were Quakers and pacifists who believed that violence only led to more violence which would ultimately lead to world war III. In 1916 they donated their home and land to the military for use as a shooting range during World War I; this became known as "BelleFontaine Manor". After the war ended they sold the property back to the military but continued to use it as a shooting range until 1984 when it reverted back to civilian control. In 1952 growth began along US 6 north of Belle Fontaine Manor which caused concern about potential traffic backups due to businesses moving into or expanding into adjacent neighborhoods; local officials created a Special Use Zone around BelleFontaine Manor so that businesses could continue operations without fear of future roadblocks. This zone allowed for unrestricted development within its boundaries but also limited parking available on-site; after several years of operation special permits were issued allowing for further expansion of business onto-site without violating the special use zone boundaries. The Special Use Zone has been used primarily for manufacturing activities such as plastics production; however, there have been some recent attempts by developers to create mixed-use housing within its boundaries which have met with resistance from residents who feel that this type of development will not meet their needs while increasing traffic congestion on-site; overall, these efforts are ongoing though no final decisions have yet been made regarding their ultimate fate Belle fontaine Neighbors postcard

Bellefontaine is located on Highway 6 north of Springfield and east of Columbia. Bellefontaine was platted in 1854 by James Bellefontaine and his wife Henrietta Clemens Bellefontaine. The name comes from the French "Bellefeuille", meaning "beautiful forest." J.B.'s father had been born in France and immigrated to Canada when he was only six months old. In 1846, J.B.'s mother died while giving birth to him in Canada; she had married Johnathan Beardsley three years earlier. Bellefontaine first housed farm animals before becoming a community with housing for people in 1870-72 when land became available following a donation from President Abraham Lincoln at the dedication of Fort Sumter during his visit to Missouri that year. It wasn't until 1908 that Bellefontaine started selling gasoline and other supplies from its original store on Main Street which still operates today as a convenience store/grocery store known as BP Bob's Grocery Store
