Bellefontaine Neighbors is a small town in Polk County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1853 by Captain John Bellefontaine and his wife Eliza Bellefontaine. The name comes from the creek that flows through the town. In 1876, Captain Bellefontaine's son-in-law Wm. H. Beattie donated land to the town for a public school and cemetery. Bellefontaine Neighbors has a history as an agricultural center with many crops grown such as corn, beans, peas, etc.. The community also manufactures goods such as milk cans and baking powder containers In 1952, Bellefontaine Neighbors had its first post office which closed in 1984 Bellefontaine Neighbors has two churches: First Baptist Church and Second Methodist Church Bellefontaine Neighbors has one high school which serves students from grades 9-12

Bellefontaine Neighbors was originally named after the Bellefleur family, who had settled there in the early 1800s. In 1836, John Bellefontaine donated land to the community for development. The first houses were built on what is now Park Avenue. The town developed quickly and soon boasted a variety of businesses and services: a blacksmith shop, a grocery store, a post office, an insurance agency and more. The population grew rapidly and by 1840 there were over 100 residents living in Bellefontaine Neighbors. By 1870, the population had reached 500 people and by 1900 it had increased to 1,500 people. The community experienced several expansions during its history: in 1912 it became part of the city of St. Louis; in 1916 it became part of the newly formed county of Saint Clair; and most recently it has been annexed into the city of Stilwell
Bellefontaine Neighbors was founded in 1868 by John Bellefontaine and his wife, Anna. The first settler in BellefontaineNeighbors was Isaac Dunham. In 1876, the Bellefontaines started a grocery store and soon became well-known for their produce and grocery items. In 1916, the Bellefontaines donated land to the town for a schools building, which is now the old high school.
