Davidson, were out for a drive when they were shot at by three men who ran away. The brothers were not injured but John was killed as a result of the gunshot wound. Ballwin is a small town in Greene County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield metropolitan area. Ballwin is on the border of Greene and Jefferson counties and is bordered to the north by Osage Hills, to the south by Findlay Township, and to the west by Jennings County. The town was founded in 1833 as a post office called Maycomb. It became known as Ballwin after General James Ball (1786-1863), who served as governor of Missouri from 1837 to 1840 and again from 1851 to 1857. A Presbyterian church was built in Ballwin in 1889. The first African American to live in Ballwin was Jesse Sims in 1915. At that time there were no black people living in Greene County other than slaves working on farms or serving as tenants within white households. In 1960ballwin had a population of just over 1000 people with only eighty two homes still standing today! Many residents moved away during the late 1800s when farming declined around here due largely to changing technology such as irrigation systems which changed water availability for crops making them less profitable then they used to be; however some remains can be seen testifying that this once vibrant community did not go away quietly! BALLWIN’S HISTORY: Ballvin Post Office opened on January 26th 1830 under name Maycomb with three total residents Mr John Witherspoon (Postmaster), Mechanic Abel Burtch( Assessor) and Carpenter Nicholas Morse( Surveyor). When it closed on December 15th 1830 it had 9 residents including 3 Postmasters- 3 Mechanics- 2 Carpenters-. ballvin took over operation from maycomb until december 15th 1830 when it passed out into private hands form Abel Burtch & Nicholas Morse with Postmasters remaining until 1861 when it passed back into public hands once more under name Maycomb again with 4 occupants including Peter Kappelman ( overseer ), George Allred ( Collector ) Mrs Mary Dixey ( Housewife/Nurse/Dairymaid) & 3 children -all boys! On July 12th 1861 ballvin received its current name “Ballwin” through Voting Act approved by Congress following request of local officials Follett Pogue( President pro tem) Samuel Latham( Clerk ) & 2 others!! Incorporated on October 14th 1865 under act of congress 505 U S 527!!!BALLWIN’S FIRST SETTLEMENT: On June 27th 1860 located east side of road leading east across field towards courthouse 100 yards long w/ large house on right hand side @ 10 feet high—this house later became known as White House which sat until 1886 when it burned down! After several years trying to find new land for a new settlement both Pogue & Latham gave up before anything came about so an eventually erected plank fence ran along property line now occupied by School District #1!!! This part of town still exists today but has been greatly altered & modernized most notably being incorporation into School District #5!!! BALLWIN IN 1896: After many fruitless attempts starting in 1895 Charles Fenton bought 6 lots near where White House once stood for $5 each which he donated back then also constituting what would become our present day school district boundaries!!!! From here we slowly began planting trees throughout what would become our communities early park system , laying out roads etc…. What we know today started out very much like this………..From high ground we could see all around us while living close enoughto workhorse tools you could chop wood if needed or fetch water if well done !! We knew exactly how things worked because those days were fullof hard labor!!!!!!!!!!!!! Today our community looks much different but traceable back almost 300 years

Ballwin was founded in 1853 by John Green and Isaac Bibbs. Ballwin was named for General James Hogg. The first post office in Ballwin was established on November 12, 1853. The townspeople voted to give it the name "Johnstown" on November 26, 1853. In 1865, John Green donated land for a school and church in what is now called Ballwin. The cornerstone for the First Presbyterian Church was placed on April 6, 1865 by Reverend Jno[h] A[nderson]. In 1870 when Union Pacific Railway built its line through Johnson County from St Louis to Springfield, much of what is now ballwin were included in their line and became part of that railroad's town of Springfield (now Kansas City). In 1880s there were few places left in central Johnson County so a group of people decided to move into what is now known as Ballwin and start anew. They started out with one cabin but soon grew larger and purchased more land until they had enough to build their own homebase which they did between1885-1920s when they moved all the way up to present day including building some new homes on primary schools property which still stands today!
