In 1870, a schoolhouse andatorium were built near the present site of Main Street and Elm Street; this school served as the town's first public library until 1898 when it moved to what is now First Baptist Church on Elm Street. In 1907, Ballwin became one of three communities within the new city limits of Saint Louis that joined together to form what is now known as The Mall District; today, many businesses within The Mall District are still owned and operated by their original owners or descendants who have retained rights to them through succession transactions. In 1969, Ballwin approved annexation by Saint Louis which resulted in its incorporation into that city as a municipality separate from SaintLouis County government control The city has experienced various demographic changes over time: between 1990 and 2000, for instance, African American residents decreased while Hispanic residents increased slightly; since 2000 however there has been a decrease among all racial groups with no corresponding change in population size or employment status."

Ballwin is a small, unincorporated community in Star County, Missouri, United States. Situated on the border of Star and Boone Counties, Ballwin was part of the East Bank settlement before it became a town in 1872. It was acquired by the City of Ballwin in 1902. The first settler at Ballwin was John Coyle who arrived on July 6, 1829. The original site of Ballwin had been designated as the east side of an existing creek named for General David Mackinac which ran through present-day Boone and Star Counties. In 1832, Isaac Stephenson purchased land from John Coyle and laid out a town on the new site that included a post office and two stores. The name "Ballwin" was chosen for its resemblance to certain ball game players from Ireland who had come to America to play with local farmers during the 1830s. In 1836, Isaac Stephenson donated land north of his original village lot for a public school which would serve both villages combined. The school housed twelve students in one room with high ceilings and opened in October of that year; it remains one of only two schools open today in both Ballwin and neighboring Booneville. A courthouse replaced the old store on Main Street when it burned down in 1865; construction began on a new courthouse but stopped due to financial difficulties soon after completion . On November 1, 1888, voters passed an ordinance creating Ballwin Township under Jay Cooke county government; this made Ballvin the first township within Star County . On February 3rd, 1907 , voters passed an ordinance creating streetscapes for all six townships within Star County ; these streetscapes remain integral parts of local culture to this day .
The town of Ballwin, Missouri was founded in 1836 by James K. Polk and his wife Lucy. The town was named after General Andrew Jackson's home state of Georgia. The first store in the town opened its doors on December 6, 1836. The population of Ballwin was only six hundred people when it was founded, but it grew rapidly thanks to the introduction of a railroad to the area and the development of nearby agricultural lands. In 1840, the first Baptist church in Ballwin was built and soon afterwards a Methodist church as well. In 1845, BALLWIN became the county seat for Cass County and remained so until 1907 when that county merged into St. Louis County. By 1870, there were over two thousand residents living in Ballwin proper while adjacent rural areas had a populations ranging from one hundred to fifteen hundred people. The community continued to grow during the 19th century with an influx of German immigrants who started businesses such as breweries and grocery stores along with Irish settlers who made their homes in what is now Ballwin Township. With new technology becoming available throughout the late 19th century such as electricity and automobiles,Ballwin experienced rapid growth during this time which continues to this day with high-tech businesses located throughout downtown Ballwin today
