In addition to these large employers, smaller businesses include A&P Supermarket chain stores and several restaurants including Dutch Bros., JJ's Barbecue Pit Restaurant & Brewery, Best Buy/Grispin's Sporting Goods store - which has been home to Hooters since 1978 -and Knights Inn hotel & Conference Center which opened in 1988 adjacent to IAW Technical Institute

Ballwin is a small town in Dixon County, Missouri, United States. The population was 647 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Springfield, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area now known as Ballwin was first settled by French Canadians in 1811. A post office called "Ballwin" was established in 1816, and remained in operation until1872. The name derives from a Shawnee word meaning "place where there is plenty of corn." Ballwin's early settlers were primarily farmers; however, during the late 19th century, Ballwin became an important transportation hub for goods moving between Springfield and St. Louis. In 1907, the railroad arrived to provide more efficient access to BALLWIN'S economic center; this led to increased business and residential development around the town square. In 1916, Ballwin became one of fourteen townships in Dixon County that were consolidated with neighboring Lebanon Township to form the new county of Dixon. At the time of its creation, Ballwin had a population of 513 people (out of a total population of 901 in Dixon County). Today, BALLWIN retains much of its pioneer heritage with some interesting facts about its history: First organized on November 7th 1816 when 10 men from Canada assembled at Fort Dearborn and formed a Light Infantry Company named after their captain - Sir John Johnson who had just been detached from Quebec City duringthe War Of Independence! As it turned out only 3 members made it back home & they all died within 2 weeks so no record remains but everyone else pretty much forgot about us LOL
The town of Ballwin was founded in 1855 by W. C. Ball and his brother, James Fenton Ball. The town was named after General Andrew Jackson's home state, Tennessee, and became a center for farming and banking in the region. In 1870, the town had a population of 100 residents and it grew to 350 by 1890. In 1916, Ballwin became an independent city when it separated from its surrounding rural area. The city's economy diversified over time, with businesses such as banks, hotels, and grocery stores moving into the city limits. By 2000, Ballwin had a population of 653 people and it is now an all-volunteer community known for its arts scene and its role in education
