The city annexed other villages until it had a total population of 11,827 in 1970. It lost most of its growth during the 1990s as suburban development increased near cities such as Springfield and Kansas City while Arnold suffered from competition from these larger cities for jobs and wealth along with falling real estate values which forced many businesses to close or move out of town altogether. Since 2000 however there has been some revival including new restaurants and bars opening up as well as more investment going into the community including a new park that opened in 2017 which has brought much needed tourism to the town since then The history of Arnold goes back over 220 years when Major Edward Arnold moved to this area after escaping military service in Illinois during the American Civil War In 1868 Major Edward Arnold established himself on what is today named Park Avenue in what is now known as Arnold He started a small farm with his three sons before moving onto land that would later become home to one thousand people By 1893 there were five schools located within two blocks of each other providing education for children ages six through eighteen Arnold soon proved himself an important player in central Missouri’s economy by becoming an incorporator for both the Village (now known as Downtown) and Township (later known as Northwood) Civic Education Districts For forty-eight years he served on various civic boards including seven terms on the City Council before retiring at seventy-six years old He remains deeply involved with local affairs today attending almost all major events associated with his hometown including monthly meetings of the Village Board prior to their weekly meeting being held at nearby Defiance University

Arnold, Missouri is a town in Phelps County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,227 at the 2010 census. Arnold was founded in 1874 by David and Anna Arnold. It is named after General John J. Arnot who fought in the American Civil War. The first post office in Arnold was established on December 12, 1874. The name of the town was changed to Arnold on February 2, 1875; it reverted to Arnold on February 8th of that year. The first store in the town opened on July 6th, 1875. In 1886 a sawmill and gristmill were built near the present day Main Street and School Road intersection; these mills started production around 1888/89. By 1899 there were six stores operating in the town with a population of about 550 people; four of these operated as general storekeepers with their own families. In 1898 an ice cream plant was built west of Main Street; this became Wegmans Ice Cream Company three years later when that company purchased the plant from Mrs Rufus Wegman (the original owner). A post office called Post Office Park was established at Post Office Road east of I-435 on October 20th 1912; it closed September 15th 1954 due to floods caused by bad weather during Hurricane Agnes which struck nearby St Louis early that week but no damage did to Arnold or any other townsfolk! In 1965 two new schools were built: one for grades K-8 and one for high school students grades 9-12 (this would be replaced by High School #2 which opened in 1985). A fire destroyed part of downtown business district before it could be contained on November 25th 1966 leaving only one building standing – this building served as both Our Lady Of Charity Catholic Church and Mayor’s Mansion until 1988 when it also caught fire resulting in extensive damage including loss of most if not all its contents! Most recently a large Walmart Supercenter has been erected just outside city limits across from downtown off I-435 next to Interstate 70 making room for only light industry while still providing access to city services like streetscaping! This development has resulted in increased traffic congestion adjacent thereto as well as numerous environmental complaints from citizens protesting what they see as an eyesore!

A post office called Arnold was established in 1829, and remained in operation until 1865. In 1847, a school for poor children was built here. The town grew rapidly during the early 1800s due to its strategic location on the Missouri River and its good access to lumber and other resources. By 1850, Arnold had a population of about 350 people. In 1860, it merged with neighboring towns of Liberty and Linnville to form the city of Arnold. In 1870, Arnold became home to what is now the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UAR). UAR began operations here in 1901 as one of the original universities in America. The university has grown rapidly over the years, becoming one of America's leading research institutions. In 2000, UAR celebrated 125 years of existence as an institution dedicated to learning for all citizens—including students from around the world.
