Arnold, Mo., is a small town located in the Iowan County seat of Garnet. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. Arnold is home to two rifle ranges one dating back to 1892 and another opened in 1959. Both are open to the public and offer firearm safety courses for children as well as adult shooters. The history of gun shooting in Arnold dates back to 1892 when a rifle range was opened by Judge Augustus White and his son Jameson White on present day basis. The Judge's Rifle Range was later purchased by Johnnie Robertson who also ran a pistol range nearby which closed in 1903. However, there are references that date back much earlier with rifles being used in local militia drills dating back to 1795 when soldiers from Missouri were stationed at Fort Leavenworth during the War of 1812 One of the first shotgun shootings took place on October 3rd 1895 when Amasa Parker shot three men from under cover at an encampment near present day Garnet according to "History Of Archery In America". After this event, rifle shooting became more popular among locals and visitors alike including newspaper editors who would take part in shootouts throughout the year at various locations around town. In 1899, George Curtis founded Curtis Rifle & Shotguns which soon became known for its high quality firearms products In 1902, Drury Archers opened their own pistol range adjacent to Judge White's Rifle Range becoming one of the first archery ranges west of the Mississippi River In 1906 Johnnie Robertson purchased Judge White's Rifle Range followed by several other businesses within Arnold including Hennesy Guns (later renamed Brownells) which manufactured shotguns and rifles until 1968 When it closed its doors permanently leaving behind an inventory estimated at over 2 million firearms In 1909 a post office was erected just east of Route 66 near today's Old Post Office Road During World War II patriotic sentiments ran high with citizens contributing supplies such as ammunition, vegetables or furniture to various NRA camps across Missouri making Arnold one of those towns where NRA members could gather together for target practice . On November 6th 1940 after dayslong siege by Japanese troops Arnold residents successfully repelled an attack led by Lt Col Asa Hutchinson with assistance from local militiamen

Arnold is a town in Barry County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,816 at the 2010 census. Arnold has been named for General James Arnot, who fought in the Mexican-American War and received the Medal of Honor. The town was platted on December 12, 1837 by John P. Dickson and Wm. H. Drake as part of a new township created by Missouri law during the antebellum period. The first post office was established in Arnold on January 6, 1840. It was renamed Newton on November 7, 1845 because a settler from that name had donated land to the town site. In 1858, Arnold became part of the newly formed Kansas Territory when it was gained from Texas following its victory in the American Civil War On November 3rd of that year General James Arnot arrived at Newton with his forces to assess what resources were available for Kansas should it become an independent nation He reestablished contact with local farmers here and convinced them to help build roads and other infrastructure necessary for Kansas’s fledgling statehood In 1865 he again visited Newton and this time offered land to settlers if they would move into his territory Some chose to stay put while others migrated eastward across Arkansas into Nebraska Territory When Kansas seceded from America in 1861 due to disagreements over slavery/ freedom issues Arnold remained within Barry County until May 15th 1870 when he sold all his land north of Ulysses S Grant Boulevard (now Grand), effective date being May 16th 1870 . AfterKansas left America there wasn’t any more military activity or settlements so farming took precedence Over development however some oldelman homes still remain today
Arnold, Missouri was founded in 1836 by John Arnold and his wife Elizabeth. The town was named after the Jesse James robbery which took place in nearby Lawrence County two years earlier. The Arnold family operated a grocery store and post office from their residence on the corner of First and Main Streets for several decades. In 1853, Arnold married Margaret Morse and opened a livery stable. By 1861, the Arnolds had moved to a new home on Third Street. In 1865, they started a flour mill which produced flour for local breadmakers until 1886 when it closed down due to financial difficulties. After that time, the Arnolds continued to operate a small grocery store until their death in 1922.
