Arnold, Missouri has been a significant center of rifle manufacturing for over 100 years. The city was founded in 1869 by James M. Arnold, who purchased land at the junction of Illinois and Missouri Rivers. Arnold developed a small arms industry which soon became world-renowned. His company manufactured rifles, shotguns, pistols and other firearms. Arnold is also responsible for development of the modern automatic rifle and is credited with helping to make the assault rifle one of the most popular weapons in history. In addition to his businesses, Arnold served as Mayor from 1951 to 1959 and as City Councilman from 1965 to 1969. He was also inducted into the Missouri State Business Hall of Fame in 1984.

Arnold, Missouri is a town in Webster County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. The name of the town came from Arnold Engine House, which was located in the town. The engine house was built in 1892 and it was used as a schoolhouse until 1975. The first post office in Arnold was established on December 12, 1872. The present post office building was built in 1907 and it is now called the Arnolds Post Office. In 1886, an act to create a township named for Stephen A. Long was passed by the General Court of Webster County. The townsite for Arnold were surveyed on November 15, 1886, and construction began on October 9, 1889. On November 10th of that year, the first official meeting of the Township Committee took place at the home of Mrs J.C Williamson with Wm Henson serving as clerk

The history of Arnold begins with two families that lived there for generations: the Kerns and the Stewarts. The Kerns were farmers who married into local families and donated their land to build up Arnold. In 1871, when Edwin J. Stewart became owner of what is now known as Stewart's Store, he decided to name his business after General Fenton Arnold. The town started off as a small rural community with only a few homes and businesses. It grew rapidly during its early years due to the influx of new people and businesses who came to work in Stewart's Store or farmland around it. By 1912, however, all but one of those businesses had closed down because of prohibitionism which began to take hold in America following World War I. During Prohibition, many Americans turned to crime to make money unavailable to them via prohibitionism. This led to increased violence and crime throughout American society which resulted in more people being forced out of their homes and into poverty than ever before. One result of this high level criminal activity was that much property was lost during Prohibition-related crimes such as burglary, larceny-theft, arson, etc.-which caused many communities across America (including Arnold) suffering economic decline over time until they eventually reverted back into normalcy after repeal happened in 1933 under President Franklin D Roosevelt’s New Deal program). In 1935, Mayor Frank Hickey announced plans for development outside of town center on land currently used for agriculture by Mr./Mrs./Dr./Mr./Ms.(last name withheld), fourteen citizens living within five miles (eighteen kilometers) radius thereof for residential purposes only; commercial development not proposed or allowed without prior notification from city hall; no services provided by city government other than trash pickup/garbage collection/fire suppression; future annexation possible if approved by village board majority & village president concurred . For nearly fifty years since then (1935 through present), residents have produced over ninety percent (ninety percent) of all electric power generated within fifteen miles (.25 kilometers) radius [of town].
