Arnold, MO (July 13, 1868-March 30, 1966) was a town in the U.S. state of Missouri. It was located in the eastern edge of the Ozarks and was named for General James K. Polk Jr. The Union Pacific Railroad constructed a line through Arnold in 1871 and it became an important center for small farmers and hunters. By 1930, Arnold had a population of just 100 people. But its importance didn't go away; the town still manufactured ammunition and shotguns, as well as selling guns to law enforcement and hunting enthusiasts alike.

Arnold, Missouri is a small town in the Ozarks region of Missouri. The population was 7,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the St. Louis metropolitan area. Arnold was named for General James Fenton Arnold, who fought in the Mexican-American War and was a Medal of Honor recipient. The first white person to live in what is now Arnold was Abram Smedley, who settled there in 1837. He made his home on an old farmstead that he had bought from David Herrick some years earlier. In 1838, two other settlers, John Crouch and Isaac Weems, also arrived in this area. They built a cabin near present-day Third Street and State Highway 914 (now Old Route 66). In 1846 William Hinton moved to Arnold with his family from Decatur County, Illinois. At that time it was still part of Missouri Territory under US control after the Mexican-American War. He came to this area to help build a road connecting Stilwell City and Springfield on the east side of Kansas City by way of Decatur County and then south through Arkansas Territory into Indian Territory before arriving hereabouts in early April of that year—a very important accomplishment for him as one of only seven men within 8 months to complete such an undertaking! William's son Wm., born about this time also moved hereabouts shortly thereafter; he would become one of history's most accomplished farmers! It wasn't until December 1st, 1850 when Kansas Territorial Legislature passed House Bill No. 4562 which created what is now Armstrong County; however much like today’s state government structure back then all county seats were located at Marshalltown (!), so not much change took place until November 3rd following Marshaltown’s incorporation as the county seat! On January 1st 1851 Armstrong County residents met at Ansonia Baptist Church #2 located just northwest (northwest corner)of present day Main Street where they elected Drury Caddell as their first sheriff – an event many feel helped solidify Arnold’s ties with neighboringDecatur County! In later years various polls were held throughout both counties often resulting in different election results due primarily to voting irregularities but still serving as good evidence regarding those days prior thereto! Finally on October 12th 1871 realignment within Jackson County caused all former Decatur/Arnold combined precincts (excluding parts annexed by other townships) including portions annexed by other townships since sectional boundaries had changed again!! This finally resulted in local elections being conducted therein instead & Arnie’s last straw!! Arnold was a small town in Jackson County, Missouri, United States until the early 20th century. It is located on the Missouri River and its ZIP code is 64023. The population of Arnold at the 2000 census was 1,898. The first settler in Arnold was John McCloy who started in 1819. He later moved to Hannibal and then to Arnold. In 1827, James McMillan established a ferry service across the river between Arnold and Hannibal. In 1836, General Andrew Johnson's Department of War arrived in Jackson County and began construction on what would become Fort Henry near present-day Hannibal. The fort served as a military post until it was abandoned in 1865 after Confederate forces destroyed it during the Battle of Missionary Ridge. In 1870, J. Wm Hurlbut built a sawmill at present-day Arnold which continued operation until 1918. Jared Sparks founded an agricultural machinery company here in 1893 which became known as Sparks Manufacturing Company Incorporated Today., making alloys for locomotives and other products from 1917 to 1984 when it merged with International Harvester Co., becoming part of Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM). At one time or another most of these businesses were relocated here: ADM's headquarters from 1932 to 1969; Phelps Dodge Chemical Works from 1951 to 1984; Archer Daniels Midland's administrative offices from 1967 to 1984; and parts of hulking Monsanto chemical plants that stood here until they were razed around 1985-1986 by order of Steven Milliken as part of his master plan for redevelopment called "The Great Plains".
Arnold was founded in 1836 by landowner David Arnold. The town became a thriving community during the years following the Civil War, thanks to its convenient location and rich agricultural potential. In 1881, Arnold was named one of the "10 mostimportant cities in Missouri." The city's growth continued into the 20th century, with many new businesses and residences being erected in what is now known as downtown Arnold. Today, Arnold is an important center for local commerce and government, with several high-quality universities located within its boundaries.
