In 1969, three gunmen stormed into a restaurant in Arnold and began indiscriminately firing handguns at customers and staff. A protracted shootout ensued which ended with all three assailants dead or captured. That same year, four men drove into town on bicycles wielding pistols and shotguns while screaming "All clear!" moments after detonating bombs inside a nearby shopping mall. No one was hurt but several businesses were damaged as a result of the blast. In 1984, another spate of shootings took place throughout the city center involving gunfire from multiple assailants wielding firearms indiscriminately. Two weeks later, seven people were killed when shots were fired out of control at an amusement park near downtown Arnold during Family Day festivities. Finally, in 1995, five handguns were found hidden inside an abandoned building near downtown Arnold after it had been reported that someone had been able to purchase them there for misuse purposes (i.e., for self-protection). All five weapons were confiscated and are still currently held by law enforcement officials pending further investigation."
