Jesse Arnold Dam was built on the Arkansas River in nearby Damascus in 1904. Arnold is located at (38.566922, -92.906368). According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Arnold has a humid subtropical climate, abbreviated "Cfa" on climate maps. The town of Arnold straddles the Arkansas River and is bordered by Carpenter to the north and east, Garden City to the south-southwest and Park Rapids to the west. It contains two small shopping malls - One anchored by Sears Holdings Corporation and anchored by JCPenney - as well as two churches: First Baptist Church and Holy Cross Lutheran Church. According to 2010 census data, 72% of residents are white; 24% are black or African American; 5% are Native American or Alaska Natives; 3% are Asian; 1% is from other races; 2% were from two or more races; and 0.7% were Hispanic or Latino of any race. As of 2000 there were 993 households out of which 25.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.3% were married couples living together, 10.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 43.1% were non-families . 27 households consisted of 8 people who lived alone and that included all six occupants of their vehicle (). The average household size was 2 persons . In 2000 there were 959 housing units at an average density of 95/km² .

Arnold is a small, unincorporated community in south-central Missouri, United States. It was founded in 1881 by men who settled on the site of what is now Arnold after being discharged from the military for participation in the Mexican–American War. The town has a population of 514 as of the 2010 census. The town was named after General and statesman James K. Polk, who fought in the American Civil War and served as Ulysses S. Grant's secretary of war. The community had two stores, one post office, and one school when it began to gain attention in 1881. In 1903, Arnold railroad station was opened and became an important stop on the Great Western Railway network; other nearby stations were Prentiss (1892), Hermann (1898), and Hillsboro (1902). In 1922, Arnold Post Office #581 closed due to low mail volume; however, it reopened under new management two years later. In 1925, Arnold High School opened its doors for students grades 9 through 12; but it closed its doors again in 1949 because of budget cuts caused by World War II austerity measures. In 1955, Parkwood Elementary School opened its doors for grade 1 through 3 students; but it closed its doors again in 1979 after serving fewer than five years due to budget cuts caused by Ronald Reagan's economic policies. Arnold, Missouri was founded in 1836 by two brothers, John and Jesse Arnold. The town quickly developed into a small agricultural community with a population of around fifty people. In the 1840s, the Arnold brothers began to purchase large tracts of land in what is now Kansas City, Missouri. They used their profits from these purchases to build a rancho called Palo Alto which stretched for several miles along the banks of the Arkansas River. The Arnold Rancho became one of the most important cattle drives in early Kansas City. It also served as an important stop on the Underground Railroad. In 1846, John Arnold died suddenly while traveling to visit his brother at Palo Alto. Jesse Arnold took over management of the rancho and continued to farm it until his death in 1865. The rancho was sold to James Hennepin who moved it back and forth between Minnesota and Illinois before finally selling it to David Stone in 1886. Stone turned it into a public housing project called Archer Housing Authority which continues today as part of Shriver Plaza Complex on SW Archer Drive in downtown Wichita, Kansas
