Arnold is a small town in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. Arnold is part of the Springfield-Greenville Metropolitan Statistical Area. Arnold was founded in 1836 by John Aiken and his family as a station on the Great Western Railroad. In 1881, J.A. Arnold & Son built a gristmill which still stands today and continues to produce flour for local markets. In 1902, Cipriano Brothers opened a general store and post office in Arnold which became known as "The Post Office." The store closed in 1954 but reopened as an institution in 1980 under the name of "Arnold's Grocery." With its current name it still carries out its original mission of serving the community with groceries, hardware, appliances and other items not found at most stores today. One of the most memorable moments in Arnold's history occurred on November 17th, 1955 when Joe Biden made his maiden speech from the Civic Center steps! This event symbolized new beginnings for this small town that had seen so many changes over time - including becoming one of only four towns in Missouri to join the Interstate 45 network! On July 4th, 1984, Mayor Harry Hebert unveiled plans to remodel downtown Arnold into an arts and cultural district which would include galleries, a performing arts center and more than 20 restaurants/cafés! The project was eventually defeated due to financial challenges but Downtown Arnold remains one of our most popular tourist destinations! On December 12th of that year marked 50 years since Mayor Hebert announced plans for Downtown Arnold when he again unveiled plans for renovation that would include additional shopping centers (the current Arnie's Marketplace will be torn down) as well as establishment of more public art galleries throughout downtown!"

Arnold is a small town in Greene County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,769 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Springfield-Springfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. Arnold was platted in 1859 and named after General James A. Arnold, who fought in the Mexican-American War and served as a U.S. Senator from Missouri. In 1903, the town became the home of Missourian Magazine which still publishes its issues there today. Understandings about Arnold date back to before it became a community when people traveled through this area on their way to or from Springfield or Columbia for work or business reasons; they would stop at what is now Arnold's post office to ask for directions to Springfield or Columbia and then continue on their way again without stopping at Arnold! In 1853, John Cramer donated land for a school in what is now Arnold. Classes began on July 8 of that year and were taught by Mrs. Halsey (Fannie) Owens until 1861 due to lack of space at her home next door which she used as an barn during prohibition years! The first Superintendent was Reverend Drury with classes lasting 3 weeks each month starting September 15th, 1854 until January 6th, 1855 (the building still stands). This building also housed Mr.�s store until 1865 when he moved his business over to US Highway 59 where it continues today! The first post office in town was established on December 12th, 1860 by Major Wm.�H�Mason with deliveries being made twice per week! The name change came about because some residents had trouble pronouncing “arnold” so they called it “armstead” instead! It wasn't until November 4th 1870 when General James A. Arnold arrived in Springfield courtesy of President Ulysses S Grant which aided in helping make Arnold a thriving community! He gave $1,000 towards the erection of a theater which would feature plays and lectures everyday except Sundays! On October 5th 1870 local citizens voted 10-0 yes to annexation into Greene County! That same day general election results were announced showing that 54% of voters supported annexation while 46% opposed it because some felt that since Ardorman already had too many people living there it would be harder for them to compete economically with neighboring towns such as Springfield and Columbia; however majority voted against annexation anyway!!! / / / / / # arnoldmissourihistory
Arnold was founded in 1837 by John Arnold, a man who had moved from Illinois to Missouri. The town was named for John Arnold's older brother, who had died in 1836. The first school was organized in 1838 and the first store opened in 1840. In 1850, the town became a county seat. In 1860, it became a state capital and remained so until 1907.
