In 1870, a post office was established at Enterprise and mail continued arriving until 1955 when a new post office opened at Jackson with same name; this name change applied only to Enterprise proper and not any other part of the city limits. On October 25, 1892, an oil well became available on land west of present-day downtown Yazoo City and businesses quickly developed around it; this led to increased traffic on Main Street which deteriorated into a mud puddle during winter months due to lack of snow plows or ice runners ability to clear sidewalks without damaging vehicles parked along them). By 1895 Enterprise had become one of America's largest cotton plantations with more than 7500 slaves working on 3 miles (5 km) wide main thoroughfare known as "the plantation track". In 1935–36 work began on constructing what is now Belle Isle State Park which then became home for many animals including horses used for racing purposes as well as numerous bird species seen for the first time during World War II when airfields were constructed nearby (Belle Isle State Park also includes several restaurants serving up high-quality food made from locally sourced ingredients).
